Default Dry cell battery

Anyone know where you can buy dry cell batteries for 911's? I'm fed up cleaning up around my battery box where battery fluid has leaked out.

Are dry cell the same as maintenance-free? If so try www.varta-automotive.co.uk. I can't see them leaking but I'm no expert!

David,

Thanks for the info - Varta appears to be 'sealed' but traditional plate and electrolite. On the forum the US guys talk about 'gel' batteries that obviously negate electrolite slopping around but don't seem to be available in the UK.

The US guys rave about Optima batteries...

http://www.optimabattery.freeserve.c...a/charging.htm

You'll save time doing a search on the relevant forum for your model to find out which Optima model fits.

Hmm,
I used a banner battery, 80A/hr Fully sealed calcium filled 4 year warrantied 4 post battery, I leave the car for up to two weeks at a time, and this is the best battery I have ever used. all for £55.

A snip.

I think you can get the Optima batteries in the UK. Take a look at the Off-Road Competition/4x4 magazines. Those guys like to use dry cells.............

Rob,

I'd never heard of them either, but the local spares place convinced me they made OEM for AUDI etc, I did a web check and sure enough they do OEM for lots of folks, made in Austria. Developing a 42V system for new generation Audi's too.
Am I impressed with mine, you bet, the car gets left for a couple of weeks sometimes and always starts ok, what more could you ask.
4 posts means universal fit, it can go either way round. Two pos, two negative. I've had batteries before that have posts on the wrong side and you can't get the cables to fit, think about it, if the +ve and -ve were on the left and right respectively, yet the battery required them to be on the the front facing you, yet the posts were on the back of the battery the ables wouldn't be long enough to fit, this type means the cables can fit to the front or back. If this makes any sense good on ya, I'm writing this halfway through my nighshift.........

Oh, I was looking for the Bosch silver plus at the time, shop didn't have any and recommended these over the Bosch, I've had mine about 8-9 months now.......

The outlet is called JAYAR Components. not sure how far they spread, but seem to me to be a small outlet supplying local traders etc.

Kevin.

Hmm,

Would have liked them to try the "proper" banner, rather than one made to suit a price point, it looks nothing like mine.
But then again if you only pay £30 you get a thirty quid battery IMHO.

Been checking with some of the Porsche race guys and a lot use OPTIMA - mainly because they are light in weight.

Optima batteries seem to be very expensive in the UK.
