Default Florida Great Driving Roads

Florida. Flat and tropical and as a result we don't have too many twisties and elevation changes. As another pcar lover who needs his fix, does anybody know any great driving roads in Florida? Thanks in advance and I look forwards to Rennlist 2016!

The only great roads in Florida are the ones that leave the state.

I grew up in south Florida - good luck....unicorns and good driving roads in Florida! Maybe around Ocala / Gainsville area but I'm guessing.

Dependent upon the time of year, I've found a few roads up around Apalachicola National Forest and Tate's Hell State Forest that are well maintained and not heavily traveled during the tourist off seasons. No, they aren't particularly challenging from a technical point of view, but they are out in the "boonies" and can provide a pleasant drive.

They're a lot like what you would find in S. Texas. Flat and straight. However, there are some non Interstate roads that have some interesting places to visit and some isolated roads you can get your accelerator fix.

Unfortunately SW FL this time of year is a a real sh** show for traffic. Sat in a 15 mile stop and go traffic jam last week taking my daughter back to school in Gainesville because two people involved in a minor fender bender decided on blocking both lanes in a construction zone on I-75, this despite a pull off area about 10 feet from where they were standing outside of their cars (blocking the shoulder!)

Best time for driving is in the summer, and any time before 8 am this time of year.

You might want to check out the car clubs in your area, they'll sometimes get track time you can get in on.

Some decent trips for a P-Car in my area:

Naples to Miami on the Tamiami Trail
Naples to Key West over the seven mile bridge

Have driven most of the non interstate roads from the panhandle to SW FL. Population density is higher year round on SE FL, have taken route 301 running through the middle of the state (lbeware of speed traps in places like Starkey and Waldo....they'll stop you for a 5mph infraction!). Route 301 gets nicer North of I-10.

Happy Motoring!

If you go "up around Apalachicola National Forest and Tate's Hell" in a Porsche, be prepared for some "You ain't from around here, are you, boy?" comments and listen for the banjo music.

Spoken like a true effete west coast snob...I've been driving those roads for twenty-five years in everything from an Audi to a Porsche and that hasn't been my experience at all...

The "banjo music" reference is based on a forty-three year-old movie that was based on a forty-five year old novel written by an novelist who, although Southern, had not the first clue about the Appalachian mountain culture, which, by the way, has nothing to do with northern Florida.

Get over yourself, asshat...

The attack on the fellow poster is not part of Rennlist decorum. Please refrain from this in the future.

That said, I agree completely with your reply....excluding of course the insult to Bobby T.
