1955 Porsche Spyder Replica-Auction in Illinois
This weekend in Spring Grove, Illinois, Van der Brink auctions http://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/a...php?detail=167
is selling off a vintage car dealer signs, equipment, novelties and a few cars.
One of the cars is a 1955 "James Dean" replica car.The description is as follows:
You are bidding on a 1955 Porsche 500 Spyder Beck Bodied Clone. This is a factory built in 1991 by Beck Development in Chuck Becks Upland, California facility. It is Beck Body #62. Early beck built. 1131421616. Title. Beck #62. This is a beautiful car and rins and drives. Sounds awesome and race ready. After it's completion this car was cosmetically transformed into the clone of James Dean's Car "Lil Bastard" . It was then used in the 1996 David Cronenberg Movie "Crash" starring james Spader and Holly Hunter. In this movie the characters reprise James Dean's fatal crash in 1955 with his original Lil Bastard car that was built by George Barris. Though this car is titled as a 1957 VW, THIS IS NO NORMAL KIT CAR. the car boasts a 3 inch twin tube ladder frame that runs the length of the car. the main body and floor pans are rivited and bonded to the frame rails which makes this car extremly rigid. it is only 62nd Beck ever produced and it bares the factory serial number 0062B. Many period correct options have been installed by the owner over the years including GT outside mirrors, leather rear bonnet straps, conversion to original style 5 bolt wheels with front disc brakes. IN 2010 the engine was updated by Bergmann to a 2498 CC wit.
Just thought it might be of interest to someone on the Forum. I have no affiliation with Vanderbrink, just found the car today.
