That's the fastest way, there are other routes that seem to be more direct like Yeehaw Junction however they're smaller one or two lane country roads with country COPS on 'em waiting for city folk to come speeding by with their towns in them fancy European cars o' theirs!

From Miami-Dade or Broward County, I-75 across the alley and up to Tampa. From Palm Beach County, turnpike to Yehaw, west on SR 60 to Bartow, north on US 98 to the Polk Parkway, west on the Polk Parkway to I-4, I-4 to Tampa.

I'm guessing ~ 20 - 30 miles on SR 60 is 2-lanes, the rest of this route is at least 4-lanes.

As far as the Turnpike to I-4 route, I-4 around Orlando is usually a nightmare traffic wise.

I grew up around these here parts and I can tell you that the fastest way is to take the the beeline highway to okeechobee and then take hwy 70 west until you hit 75 then go north into Tampa. It is a lot faster and has a lot less traffic. I would not drive it at night because of the roads. And don't do more than 70 on the two lane road or the county cops will get ya!

Seriously, I have driven all the routes over 20 times and this is the best way by far.

I avoid the Orlando/Kissimee area at all costs!

We used to take that route from Tampa to Moroso but prefer the Yehaw Junction to SR 60 route because there are less 2 lane roads that way. With all the 2 lane roads, there is less traffic, but you can get stuck behind some slow moving farm vehichles and Sunday drivers.

I was ticketed for 83 in a 60 in that very place in 2004; I talked my way down to 74 in a 60, then took traffic school and had the points erased.

The best straight forward route is to take the turnpike to SR-60 and then I75 to Fowler Ave.

I got 2 tickets 2 weeks ago within 8 mins. of each other while going with the flow of traffic heading to Bartow off US 98... One was for allegedly speeding by a sheriff's deputy, and the other was for illegal lane change from police officer. Ask me how I really feel about them wasting my time on either one? On the way back, I simply took 60 to Turnpike and down south. The following week, I went to Orlando through turnpike and then to Tampa via I-4 and it royally sucked traffic wise on both ends. That sunday, I again took 60 to turnpike and no problems. Just watch your *** and even though I had my V-1, them boys look at european car drivers as a whole special different lot, so you don't have to be doing anything to get pulled over, other than not drive a US made car...

Great thread - this was fun to re-read all this time later. I used to hang out with Danny Ocean and Rico; great guys indeed. I miss our monthly Hooters GTGs

my route is to use the Alley and then zip up 75 to Tampa. Going up 27 thru the little towns is more "scenic" but way slower.
