Why is it when I see a picture in a thread, I click and save as a .jpg, then try to repost it, it shows up as in file format and not in as a .jpg?

I've posted several pictures of mine from my camera, only to come back and try to save them and they are saved in a format that I can not repost. Does the List have a saftey feature that disallows reposting pictures save from a previous thread? It's weird, it seems to only happen to those pics that I have uploaded.
