Not sure if anyone still uses it (besides me) but my new iMac running OS High Sierra doesn't like dealing with it. I can view the pictures just fine but editing any of them or even uploading new photos proved impossible.

Is the gallery still a thing or am I lost in the past?

We have a much more modern gallery product, the legacy galleries are supported in that the images are still online, but I don't believe you can still upload and this would likely also affect things like re-arranging etc. The old gallery is built on very very old code, try the new one out here: Gallery
