Battery time once again ( 2017 version )
Hello All
firstly I do not want to get into the optima debate as this is not the intention of this thread so if you have opinions on whey everyone should be running an optima please open another thread.
I run a conventional battery and my awesome interstate final died. I got it in 2006 so 11 years out of a battery is a pretty good run.
it was a group 91HD ( 11 1/4" wide by 6 3/4" tall 7" deep ) that I got at SAMS Club but I think it is not available anymore. ( Sams club pulled out of Canada anyway ) They do carry a interstate MTP 91 which is like 300 bucks at interstate depot !!! ( holy crap).
If I could refind this battery i'd buy it in a second.
My local flaps points me to two batteries that their listing show as compatible and the first thing I notice is no lip on the short edge for the battery hold down ... so electrically compatible but mechanically not.
I head to Sears to look at a diehard and they tell me they have been out of the car business for years ( at least in Canada ) .
They did have one at wallmart of all places that was an H6 ever start.
The big difference in all the ones I am seeing ( group 48 also ) is that they are 7.5 inches tall. My interstate was 6.75 inches tall , and as we know that actually is a big deal when struggling with a 911 battery placement.
so of the conventional battery guys , what are you guys running ? wha challenges have you seen
oh on a side note. when I put the battery in 2006 I treated the area and sprayed it with rocker guard ( that black paintable stuff you can put along the bottom of your car. ) still looks perfect. I also run a voltmeter in the car and it has never gone above 14.5 volts and usually sits at 13.1 after a few minutes of running.

yeah Onami I think that's where im going to end up as its hard to argue with a battery that lasted me 11 years , did you pick it up at the interstate dealer ?

Yes, but in Montreal before I shipped the car here. Fits great and has the correct layout for the vent tube. That price included a new vent tube...
I've always used Interstate in my 993's and they have been great.

There's an Interstate Batteries outlet in the Hwy 27 Steeles area. I bought a battery for my SC before I sold it for around $50-75 cash. This was in 2015.
It was a warranty return. They gave me a warranty with it. A new one was around $150.

I've been using nothing but Kirkland batteries for years. Forget the charts, take measurements of your battery and take the measuring tape into Costco. That's what I do.

my keys are I need a lip on the short side for tie down and I have to be under 7 inches ( 6.88) . I could go to 7.5 but on the SC it becomes a real PITA to get in and connect leads.

I don't even bother looking around anymore.
go straight to Costco.
my battery for my van needed adjustments.
I used heavy duty 1/4" rubber to provide adjustments for the battery clamps.
