Default Trailer hitch on 911 - Vancouver

Hi All

I'm looking to put a small and hidden hitch on my 996TT. I know that a bunch of people have the Wilwood system and that seems to be the way to go (if the system is available, Ive unsuccessfully tried to find out so am currently unsure if it is) on their cars for hauling track rubber to and from the track.

Anyone in Vancouver have a recommendation as to where to get a hitch installed locally?

Mine would be for a hitch mount bike rack. I have the roof transport system already but I'm having difficultly finding racks that will carry all the different types of bikes I need to haul! One can never have too many different types of bikes! Cant find a combo of two racks or three racks that will carry every type of my bike. I cant put 5 or 6 racks up top!

Thanks Cam

i found those also but to me they look like universal hitches that the seller is presenting as being for a 911 - if you look closely they are universal, for any type of car I think.

If im putting a hitch on I'm hoping that it's super sweet and made for the car requiring minimal modification

What do you plan on towing?

I want to put a hitch mounted bike rack on the car - not actually towing anything. The OEM roof transport system isn't working for me any longer as the variety of bikes I want to haul cant be carried by one or even two different types of roof racks.

Check out seasucker. I LOVE mine! Cam had one too I believe.

How diverse is the selection of bikes you need to carry?

Seasucker won't do it either as I need 4 different fork configurations - none of which are compatible with each other, and I have to deal with a 6fattie bike in the mix too.

Regular quick release
Boxxer 20mm axel
Pike 15mm axel
Fox width 15mm axel

i can get fork adapters for the trays that are currently on top of the car but then the wheels need to go in the car. Not great.

Hitch mount bike rack solves all the problems!

Installing freshly painted bumperettes and pondering
your pedal problem.

Super sweet no but if you left the bumperettes off any good fabricator
should be able to mount a brace between the two with a small female
receiver for any generic rear bike rack?
Perhaps cutting out a necessary portion of the inside face of the
bumperettes to reveal enough surface to attach brackets or a
brace to?
With only 20mm it seems doubtful any fastening could use the bottom
access and retain the bumperette?

Not thinking much of the willwood solutions. Hinged licence plates?
Is that even legal?
The air cooled cars used the bumper brackets for attachment points
but with our bumper cover setup are there any sound mounting
points other than the bumperettes?
However you decide if your 35lb V10 and fat tire heavyweights go
on the roof system the featherlight road bikes and front wheels
shouldn't stress any system hanging out the rear.

How did the snow tire and wheel setup work for you this winter?

Hey Balu!

You have a good idea to use the bumperette bolts in some manner - I saw someone that had a mount prefab'd for that exact idea and thought that it was a decent idea. The only problem is that when the rack is not on the car the hitch is still there. I've been in contact with Willwood since the posting and hope to check that solution out further - but I agree the plate situation is probably not legal when its tilted up. BUT neither is it mounted properly with a rack obscuring it. The ability to remove the rack and see no trace is huge to me. It would be hidden behind the plate when not in use. I need to review the install directions to see what needs to be cut/modded.

I hear you about the big bikes on the roof. The worst of mine is worse than a V10 - a Banshee Legend Mk3. Sweet bike for ripping the DH trails of the Shore and the Whistler Bike Park but it takes some heft to put it up top. The rest are fine as theyre all plastic bikes.

The snows worked out well - still on the car today but Ill probably remove them this weekend. They came in handy this year in Vancouver, especially on the hills of West Van.

Did you hear back from Willwood? Are they still operating? I'm also interested in a hitch for a bike rack.
