Tires from crappy tire
CTC has (so far) the best price on Conti Extreme Contact DWs for my 993. I just had my cup 2s repainted and they look beautiful. Should I be worried about letting these yahoos touch my fresh wheels or should I go to a more reputable outfit?
Thanks

personally I worry less about the wheels and more about the tires...quality of equipment makes a big difference too...

If you're that worried... you can buy the tires and get them mounted at a place you are more comfortable with. I wouldn't let places like Canadian Tire or Walmart handle the wheels on any car I have... let alone my Porsche!

Depends on how good your store is. The one closest to me has done all of our cars and we haven't had any problems. I'll probably be having my next set (RE71R) from Costco mounted somewhere else though.. If you feel queezy about it at all, just do what Crester said. Worth probably whatever price premium they charge you to not be fretting about the health of your car.

Just for comparison, I picked up a set (17's) 225/255 last season for the 964 paid just under $900 taxes in, including installation (from Simply Tire). Didn't have to worry about who was mounting them either!

whoever you take them to be sure to photograph the fresh wheels and tell them they are perfect before the install. I would not trust Cdn Tire with my wheels or any car for that matter.

Just a note - the DW is a great touring tire but with a soft sidewall. I was happy with them on an 86 911 for comfy quiet street cruising, but they are not responsive tires and many find them objectionable on a 911. Quiet though.
It has just been superseded with the Conti Extreme Sport (or some similar name) and more closely replicates a Michelin Super Sport in construction. Check out the review in the wheels and tires forum.
Just something to be aware of.
If you want to find matching replacement rears in a few years, you may be out of luck with the DW. Plus the new tire is supposedly quite a bit less squishy.
Good luck!

A big shout out to Allen at SimplyTire in Toronto.
I brought my freshly repainted Cup2s and they installed new ExtremeContactSport tires. Great price & service. I was concerned about marking up the wheels since the re-spray was wet paint, not powder coat.
I checked each one and they are flawless.
I am pleased.
I will post some pictures next week.
