A dangerous battle ensued between Vettel/Ricciardo. Strategy? Maybe.
None the less, he needs maturing. This is why we cannot have 17 years old kids F1, they can drive like adults, but react like children.
According to Max... and it's true... he was SUGGESTED to give back the place over team radio... but he didn't receive an order from the FIA to do so. Even Helmut Marko in an interview before it was known Max was being pulled off the podium said he thought Max didn't have to give the place back... and quoted Rosberg on the first lap as precedence that Max shouldn't have to give the spot back.

Max is adding some needed spice to the sport...
When you need the immature antics of a spoiled teenager to "add spice" to Formula 1 it's past time to give up on the sport entirely. Maybe when Ecclestone has been dead for 10 years or so F1 will become worth watching again.

I was under the impression FIA gave the team the orders hence the relay to Vercrappin. Ahh.. I like the kid.

Max's attitude and antics ruined the finish for 3rd.

He did the right thing, why give up the position Hamilton already set the precedent by missing Turn 1 at the start of the race, the incident happened with only several laps remaining, he held his position and let the FIA sort it out at the end of the race.

The FIA is digging themselves a hole with all these rules that they can't enforce, governing defending in the brake zone and exceeding track limits.

to many ecclestones on this thread .. let the kids play and lets see what they can do .. you never know , it actually might get interesting again. There was an aggressive young German kid once that totally revived the sport for millions around the world... and took Ferrari to the promised land.

The current crop of drivers, and very capable drivers older than Lance and Max looking for a seat in F1 can supply more than enough excitement.

Behind the Mercedes, there is some awesome racing going on. Why do people who claim to be knowledgeable motorsports enthusiasts fixate on the lead cars? F1 breeds dominate cars/teams. It happened MANY times in MANY seasons before Schumacher even entered the party. If one can't accept that a dominate car/team will be born each year, step away from the TV, and the keyboard.

The 2017 rules look like a step in the right direction, and the Max Lance "youngness" will have little to do with the improvement except in the eyes of journalists and the naive... looking forward to it already!

Max Lance... sounds like a **** star.

It will be interesting to see how Lance will do. He definitely has some talent, but there is some buzz that he was a crasher the year before (first F3 year), and his current year has been augmented by a level of resources way above the competition, and (allegedly) a significantly weaker field then when Verstappen/Ocon/Blomqvist duked it out (Ocon and Verstappen were first year competitors too). Stroll had a decent, but less spectacular first year in F3.

So, it may be too early to tell if Lance is in a similar talent range to Verstappen/Sainz/Ocon. That said, the pressure will be there because he will be seen as having had every advantage. One could also say that Hamilton entered F1 with a similarly vast amount of preparation and resources put into him. But in Hamilton's case, there is no question that the resources were there BECAUSE of the talent. That question is less clear-cut with Lance.

At the end of the day, he got the F1 seat, and that is a great accomplishment no matter what, and he will be able to make the best stab possible at F1.

Totally agree with 500 above^^^^^

Lance Stroll has talent. Without question. It would benefit him to build some more experience and maturity before entering the shark tank.

His F3 experience was with Prema Powerteam. They win everything in F3. But on the flipside Williams is a team that can help a young driver... so I could be wrong.

One more year in F3 would have done him well... I wish him the best of luck and hope he puts Canada back into focus in the F1 world circus.

In the moment I was upset with Verstappen's antics, but once you take a step back, it may simply be another sign that he'll be one of the greats.

None of these guys are really friends, they're race car drivers...and in that level of competition only the purely selfish survive & succeed. On the off chance that he wouldn't be penalized, he held the position, then much like a fighter who's fight has gone to decision, played it like he'd secured 3rd for sure until the official word came out.

Gotta admit though that it was pretty entertaining to see Vettel running and Verstappen getting kicked out of the waiting room.

I hope Stroll's first F1 season is a successful one, and anxious to hear O'Canada again at F1!

Are they paying him? That's what I would be asking if I wondered if Williams thought the kid had talent. Maybe they sign him on for free for a few races to see how it goes?

maybe he's paying $50M for the seat?

My thoughts as well, who's paying who? I guess time will tell. Let's hope we can be proud Canadians again.
