of course they haven't. they are being pussies. if you can afford to buy a new 991, you should surely be able to afford to own it after warranty expires.

The 991.1 is an excellent car with very few problems. The OP is wrong on the quality of the newer Pcars.

It may largely be due to perception. The water cooled cars / engines were troubled with engine issues. We all know about the ims bearing issues on the m96 /m97 engines. It has been followed with a bigger engine problem now of Bore scoring that affects a plethora of newer Porches even outside of 996/997/991.

Of course some owners of these newer cars are going to reduce themselves to name calling and instantly jump to the defense of their machines as they really are incapable of little more.

What you should do is some research and come to your own decision , look at the engine performance of the M96 and the later 9a1 I believe ? engine , and make the decision for yourself. Jumper is absolutely right that the later engines since moving into the water cooled market have proven less robust than their earlier air cooled cousins, and the failures aren't to be taken lightly , although the incidence may be relatively low , they can be and usually are catastrophic.

Because of this lack of robustness in the later engines I stand behind my statement that I would be nervous owning one out of warranty. Im not saying they are bad cars, but in my mind the engine is not proven reliable in the long term.
If your plan is to own one and get rid of it before Warranty expires I think its a great idea.

if you buy one , and all of a sudden after warranty you get whacked with a 25,000 bill for an engine you are going to feel some pain.

My 991.1 C2S has over 50,000km on it, with half probably at the track. I've never owned a more reliable car. The only issue I had was a defective tail light and that's it. The build quality is great, and I still love driving it (and i've owned a bunch of other cars, including my RS which I still have). All general production 911 depreciate, the 991 is no different. But to say it's not as great as an older 911 is just wrong. And as for the engine, i've yet to see anything on this forum about a failed 991 engine (non GT3).

^ Maybe it was just me but I felt it was implied. Seen too many of those 964 > 993 > 996 etc threads.

It's an insult to that car to say that you need to upgrade from it. 997.2 4S is an incredible car and perfect daily driver. I loved mine.

My 7.1 RS has been remarkably trouble free and is almost nine years old.Really nothing beyond front splitters caused by the car not having a front lift available.

I have not heard of any particular problems with the 991 range beyond the early GT3 issue, and there appears to be nothing on the broader range. In the end, there are risks with any car and for me the fun of owning a Porsche makes any very slightly level of risk worth it to me.

My 07c4 just hit 110000 km and other than water pump ne brake master cylinder all other repairs are for wear items (pads, rotors, plugs, coils, fluids)
