Hi all,
I have to do a bit of work on my 04 955 before I sell it. I wanted to keep my costs down and wanted to order the parts online and have a shop here install those parts. If you can match the price I will get the parts from you. I need to replace the drive shaft, A/C Condenser and brakes. Anyone know of someone trustworthy who can replace those if I supply the parts?
Thanks,
JG

is the issue with the driveshaft the hangar bearing? if so you don't need a new driveshaft. why not just change the brakes yourself?
gotta love the requests of very low posters...been here for 3 years and contributed zero.

Good service doesn't come 'cheap'...being budget friendly, and cheap, are two different things...
Very few want customers bringing their own parts, a lot of it is quality control ad ensuring the job doesn't get aborted half-way through..
Might want to add where you are located/where the vehicle could go...
Cheers,

04 is very similar to the toureg.
Try a VW shop/mechanic.
while I appreciate you doing the repairs before selling it.
Why not just sell it with the repairs needed clearly highlighted?
If it sells for what you want out of it. Great.
If it does not sell make the repairs.
Only 7 more weeks of A/C needed.

Without question, shops HATE when a customer brings his own parts. You will be treated as a second class customer if you do this. The simple reason is that the shop makes money on the parts as well as the service. If people think the shops are making a killing, spend a week working at one and you will quickly change your mind. It's a really tough and thankless business...
The only way to get a good deal at a shop is to be a good long term customer... they will start doing things at no-charge, and giving discounts wherever they can.
Bringing parts to a shop you don't know will only led to trouble. Bringing them parts during the busy time (summer) and asking them to install it, and you have a good chance of being turned away.

Why bring your own parts? Do you bring your own steak to a restaurant? When we supply parts they come with a warranty for the parts AND the labour. (i do realize most shops don't warranty the labour) When you bring parts to our shop if there is an issue fitting them you pay the time to make it fit vs our estimate. If the part fails in 6 months, you pay for the parts and labour to have it fixed vs us taking care of it all...
That said, we do have clients who want to DIY as much as possible, which we 100% support. They bring parts they bought when they thought they could do the repair at home and it turned out they could not. We are Ok with that but they still fall under the above circumstances.
Cheers

I expect a good shop to always recommend self sourcing parts if they are significantly cheaper in the USA - and in my experience they usually are. When my slave went, EU recommended I get it from a US dealer for $638 including shipping because the part was $1,200 at Pfaff. Thanks for that one Courtney. I don't expect anything to be cheap but it always pays to shop around.
