Insurance advice on the Ajusto app
I was hoping to get people's opinions on the Ajusto app. My partner has purchased a new car and his insurance with the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) / The Personal is offering up to a 25% reduction if he uses the Ajusto app (ajusto.thepersonal.com). The rep from The Personal claims that the information will not be used against him, i.e. that his premium will not increase. I can see why one might be against such an app in theory (e.g. big brother having more information on you), but the discount sounds pretty good and I wonder if the benefits might outweigh the risks on a personal level. Any info would be much appreciated

If you need to make a claim, they will cast their nets broadly in a fishing expedition for information that they might construe to help them escape liability.

I would not agree to it. We deal with the Personal as well via the CBIA and they have been great. Very competitive rates and easy to deal with on 2 claims in 6 years.

DON'T DO IT.
I guess the privacy of your driving habits, where you go, when you go, how often you speed, who is in the car, the fact you take it to the track for a DE among so many other things is only worth a couple hundred bucks to you.
Full disclosure, I am a privacy and IT Security geek so my position is not surprising. Canadian laws do not offer adequate protection in this area. To not use your personal data is a policy decision they are making, it can just as easily be reversed and the data they have collected on you belongs to them.
This is a great document to read, lengthy so just read the Exec sum and the section on Adjusto products.

p.s. you know that Desjardins do not own or operate this service right? An American cloud service provider is the outsourcer of this service to many insurance companies like Progressive.
Beware my friend of deals that are too good to be true.

My old company has these devices in all the fleet vehicles. The newer devices can track erratic lane changes, taking corners to fast, and of course where you are, and if the vehicle is idling to long. Alarms go off if you go over 115 kmh and all the data goes to the fleet dept.
I'm glad I got out when I did.

My pleasure, Canadians need to pressure provincial and federal legislators to protect our privacy and interests with a legal framework for the use of personal data created by connected vehicles. The personal data generated by your car will (is) an important revenue stream for manufacturers and you consented to give away for free, what a deal.
