Default Canadian Tire Coolant

Hey Guys,
I need to top up my coolant a bit and I read through threads that stated Canadian Tire doesn't sell G13 coolant but I was just checking online and came across this...Can anyone confirm if this one's good for our cars.

...iirc, $27 a gallon of concentrate

it doesn't specify in the add its equivalency, although it may say on the label. For example My Audi Coolant is G-12 , you are looking for G-13 , would it be equivalent to both ? I went with Pentafrost for My Audi. Not cheap but im happy with it. I think I paid 22.00 for a 1.5 litre concentrated. I love the stuff though and trust it to be g-12 compatible

+1. For the few $ more I go with the VW original. The dealer's only seem to carry the G13 stuff, and I got the same story three times at the dealership that G13 is the same as G12. So shouldn't it say this somewhere?

It's compatible with G12, G12+

Probably OK if you needed some on a Sunday when the dealerships are closed.

I bought some Audi G-13 coolant on-line across the border a couple of years ago, thought I got an OK price, only to find out later I could get them for just a bit cheaper at the local Audi dealership 5 minutes away from my house....

You didn't say how much coolant you needed, the system is normally a closed system so you may have a leak some where.

I was told the best bet for topping up is simply distilled water. As is it difficult to be 100% sure whats in there now (unless you put it there yourself), you risk the chance of incompatibility of coolants. Water won't hurt and unless its a major top up, it won't effect coolant ratio.

I bought a jug of this for my Passat last week as it has a small leak near the back of the engine and I don't feel like fixing it yet. The colour looks to be the same as G13 (G12 is not sold anymore and is superseded by G13) and the car hasn't blown up yet so I'll mark that down as a success! I'll keep using this and if something happens to the coolant, I will report back.

Just did this bad boy last weekend. Coolant flange can be a pita without the right tools.

Fortunately I have the right tools so only a couple hours beginning to end

I find you can't really taste the difference between this and the VW stuff if you put it in mixed drinks. But straight, the VW has a stronger finish and a bit more sweetness. Also, I am blind now from drinking this stuff so I stopped reading the Rennlist forums.

In a pinch? Turn your tap on and wait for the hottest water. Use that and you will be fine to top up. Porsche guys are waaaaaaay to picky for no reason.
