Default I need some help with a car purchase in gta

I found a gt3 i want to buy from a private party in calgary. The seller is asking for a $1000 deposit. I think thats reasonable, but i want some protection in the event that the ppi goes poorly. Any ideas?

This might be a dumb question. Who's paying for the PPI? You or the seller?

If it was me I would only give a deposit after a satisfactory PPI. How about some details on the car? Clean Carproof?

how about you and seller write a contract stating that you are giving a 1k deposit and if there are issues found with the car that the seller does not agree to address, then you have the right to get your deposit back and walk away. This protects both parties.

Id never provide a deposit before the PPI that I was paying for.

Why would the seller ask for one? If the PPI doesn't go well because his car is a pile, does he keep the deposit?

If he won't bring the car for a PPI that you're paying for, move on. He isn't a real seller or he is making a move to keep your deposit.

Definitely do not pay the deposit. The seller knows you are serious if you are willing to pay for the PPI. It is important you pay for the PPI since that ensures you will get the original documents of the condition of the car. If the seller pays for it he can have the dealer tell you selective information only due to privacy.
At the end of the day the seller is getting a free ppi and should be happy!

If I am understanding this right it is not a local deal. If I was interested in a car I couldn't see personally and it had a clean carproof, I would arrange to have the car brought to some auto body shop I have aligned myself with and inspected by them. I have wasted time and money on cars that were clean on paper, but had some previous "issues".

I think it is best to agree on a price and give a deposit and buyer pay for ppi. That way the seller knows he has a deal if car checks out and buyer knows the seller is not going to sell the car to someone else while he is paying for a ppi. Very simple. If issues found that seller doesn't want to correct buyer gets money back.

Here's what I'd do.

Have him take the car to Calgary Porsche for ppi. If it passes, have Calgary agree to keep the car until you can arrange shipping. Wire the dough when your transport arrives.

^ As above, but I would pay for the PPI as all of the inspection information would come to me directly not via the current owner ( if he paid for the PPI )

I had the reverse when selling my car. The buyer agreed to pay for the PPI. I took the car to oakville Porsche for the PPI. the seller called and paid for the ppi in oakville. Oakville porsche completed the ppi and emailed the the results to the the seller and also gave me a copy as well. If all checks out well then good to go. I would not give deposit unless ppi was done first.
