Exotic car street race in Burlington

This is a Porsche enthusiast forum so the members here know just how quickly you can get to these sorts of speeds and then back down again. I can nearly do it in 2nd gear.
I know on the highway if I'm behind someone and I'm doing 100, if I get an opening and put the pedal down, by the time I'm around them I'll be dangerously close to going over 150 before I slow back down to continue along.
Even the title of this thread suggests hooliganism. "Street race in Burlington" doesn't really imply "caught speeding on a back road" does it?
IMHO, the punishment here does not fit the crime and the way it's being reported does not reflect the incident. I hope it all works out ok for them in the end.

Im with Onami on this one .. too bad there isn't a violation in the HTA that provides a ticket for " just being a general dumb *** in a car "
anybody doing that speed on that road ( especially those of us who know Halton region very well ) deserves a general dumb *** ticket.
Besides .. headline would have been more accurate " two dumb asses in cars caught "

I'm not gonna argue with this. Good for you, I guess, for never having done it.

As has been mentioned several times already, that spot they got knicked is one of the most well-known speedtraps in Burlington. Even if they had gotten pinched in the 80km/hr zone, they were still getting impounded at 135km/h.
You pay to play. They were well past the speed limit and knew it, and got caught. It happens. I do believe that there have been many cases successfully defended against this statute in the HTA, and I am sure they can afford a good attorney.

On a side note, what a ball ache of a household fine haha. It's one thing to get pinched out with your friend, but with your wife? Two fines, two impound fees, two legal bills, all coming out of one joint bank account. Not to mention, when your wife gets her car impounded and her license suspended too who is going to give you rides around for the week? Uber will be on call at that household this week...

I don't think there are many here who have driven 135 in a 60 zone. Obviously a fine is not going to be a big deal for these people, however, a license suspension may get their attention.
One car going at 75K over the limit is speeding, two cars following each other at 75k over the limit is not just speeding. These are serious infractions that can't be settled out of court and I would not expect much sympathy from the court for these two.

Interesting...
On the 407 today I was doing 135km/h and a sport bike (lovely CBR1000RR) was next to me for at least 15 mins. We were both speeding...yes. Were we racing? No. I had my cruise on.

Stupid law that leaves it up to a cops discretion .
Pull away too fast from a stop sign you can be charged with stunting too.

Ya it's a stupid law that has a low conviction rate for a reason (plenty of data and articles on that ).
Doing 135 on that road is not a difficult to do in those cars. You are already up to 80-100 depending(most people drive that speed along there ) . Nice day. Out for a cruise and in those cars you could easily squeeze up to that speed. These aren't Hyundai accents.
Then it drops to 60. It's just like driving on many 80kmh roads in rural areas in Ontario. Cops camp at the drop down in most of these places.
They weren't paying attention (or didn't care ) and got caught. Not saying they shouldn't have gotten pulled over but in no way would I call that racing. It's a clickbate title.
It's not like they lined up side by side or did a pull from from a role. They would be doing g 200+ in no time.

I probably wouldn't be able to sleep with 500k in cars sitting in an impound lot for seven days. Considering what goes on at those places, those cars won't be pampered. That is probably punishment enough.
