Selling ones car is the worst ordeal to have to go through. This thread is a reminder of that.

OP - Its clear you need to spend more time in the 997 section of Rennlist to research the 997 more.

I just love when buyers try to shame you into what your car is worth. The car is worth what someone (else in this case) is willing to pay for it!

I should've disclosed that we did speak on the phone. My point was the dealbreaker was the fact that I would drive it in the winter

Is that the seller's fault?

if you plan to drive it in winter... budget another $25k in case of cylinder scoring and engine rebuild.

Doesn't matter. I could care less what the next guy will do with the car I'm selling. What's not clear to me is whether the guy had the original bearing replaced or not?

Be like me and research the crap out of the car you want, watch the market for ebbs and flows and then pounce on the right car that meets your criteria. If it were me I'd stay away from the 05-07 cars...

If you are in the 50K price point you should have some options. A friend just sold his '09 with under 20K miles for mid fifties. Research the market as others have stated and then find the right car for you.

I think what he is really telling you is that he is not replacing the clutch and IMS for you and selling to you at that price.

if you had said " I am comfortable with the price .. consider it sold " you would have the car by now.

Yeah, I don't read the response as "No, I won't sell to you because you want to winter drive it", but rather as "Not interested in selling at the price AND replacing the clutch and IMS... oh, and by the way, this car is in nice shape, not winter driven etc."

BTW, you will only be able to accomplish a economical IMS swap on an early '05 with the M96 motor. If it is an M97, it will not be possible unless you split the crankcase. You may already know that, just passing it along in case.

at 34km the clutch does NOT need to be changed... car should be mint.

in the buyers defence, these cars imo haven't really been depreciating for the past 2-3 years now. so i can see how it would be frustrating for a potential buyer.

to the OP the majority of decade old cars being sold by a private seller would need a cash buyer, and since that isn't really the norm a serious cash buyer should still be able to get a fair price price for these cars. all imho.

to behest, i had no clue that soft top cabriolet's could be driven in the harsh freezing canadian winters.

Seller can ask whatever they want and buyer can choose to pay it, or move on. The seller is not obligated to sell at what some other person considers a fair price.

If the original bearing is not replaced I'd err on the side of caution and have it replaced and negotiate as you have. If the guy doesn't want to deal then move on as I assume you are. As someone noted if its a M96 easier...if M97 split the case.

But watch for great priced 09's and 10's...the newer DFI engine and no real issues to worry about in comparison.
