Perspective :

Troy Tulowitzki (31) 6 more years for $99 mil
Russel Martin (33) 4 more years for $75 mil
Josh Donaldson (30) 2 more years for $28 mil

Donaldson if he continues will be demanding $35+ mil in 2018 when as he hits 33 years of age
Jose' accomplishments speaks for themselves and he will be in the Hall of Fame. That's a guarantee.
This is his last year at $14 mil. He's due the big bucks.

If the jays don't pony up, Bautista & Encarnacion will be gone by the trade deadline and then they'll be in rebuild mode.

The Jays team payroll sits around 10th in the league at around $130 mil.
At the top are the Dodgers at about $270 mil. Anthopolus will have his hand full that's for sure.

Agree with this...the Jays have not typically operated this way either. I doubt they'll offer Jose any long term contract. Keep in mind, Jose hit but .250 last year with home run production...does this indicate a decline? Not sure. If he had hit 30 points higher I believe his case might be stronger. As it stands now, he's a career .257 hitter.

Pretty tough to say JB will be in the HOF someday, I think. If he can keep up his home run production and raise his batting average and, most importantly, stay healthy, he's got a shot at it.

Always heated discussions on entrants to the HOF, with good reason. Some are deserving and some are not, IMO. I don't get a vote.

Bautista is not worth $100M - $150M for 5 years which is the rumoured amount being thrown around. Not at 35 for sure.

As much as I enjoy watching the Jays, this is the kind of stuff that made me not watch baseball for years after the strike.

This "kind of stuff" in just the modern business of baseball, unfortunately. I'd rather the players keep quiet about it and let their agents handle things. The strike ('94) never made me hate the game, although, I haven't attended a MLB game since then...a boycott if you will. Mind you, I also moved farther out of the city in the late 90's too, so not much of a sacrifice. Still, those Expos and what could have been if not for the lockout.

Looking forward to this season...so many developments. Partially new infield on the home grounds. Some new faces. Contract negotiations. Grapefruit league play started today. Blizzard raging outside tonight. Oh ya...Spring can't come soon enough.

Looking at these salaries... do they pay income tax?!? In Toronto, Canada?! I bet somehow they pay less tax than me.

Perhaps the governments of both countries involved should look at sports celebrity salaries as a source of income before a cap and trade gas tax implementation.
