I was thinking about this a while back.
Is this really a "sale"? Yes they have their regular price but they never adjusted it after oil tanked. While I don't know the details we mostly know CT has huge markup on everything at regular price and that's before any markets going under.
So this sale price is probably just today's normal price.
Not that that's a bad thing, but I'd like to see a proper adjustment to the regular price and sales accordingly.
Rather than keeping this old inflated price and having more frequent sales (which seems to be what they are doing )/philosoraptor.
Thanks op

They still had the tags on the rack today at CT.. I got 4 jugs and they all rang up at 59.99. Thanks to Quebec pricing laws I got 3 at the tagged price and 1 "free"

Needless to say the shift manager ran over tore off all the tags

The base stock is petroleum oil. It's just further synthesized to line up the molecules and further purify it. At any rate, less than 1/3 of the cost of regular oil is related to the price of crude so you really won't see much difference.
