Default Classic insurance on high km car

So, I FINALLY bit the bullet and got a winter beater.
Called a few different insurance co that offer classic / vintage policies - they won't cover a car with more than 200,000km - wtf??? (Mine has closer to 250k on it right now). Its a 25 year old car - 10,000km / year on average does not seem outrageous.
I THINK Hagerty MAY be my only option (not a bad one just wanted to shop around). Is about 1/2 of my regular policy.
Anyone else in Ontario with a high km vintage car have insurance???

Thanks!

I think you may have issues driving a "classic insured car" during winter. The policy is not intended for winter use. Also many 25 year old cars do not qualify for classic car insurance.

Agreed, if you tell them the truth they will likely not insure it.

I just revised my Hagerty policy on an 87 with 195,0000 kms and they had no issue with my new value and appraisal.

I just got an '08 Honda Element AWD 5spd - ugly as sin, but I like it- was a one-owner car, well serviced all documented, etc. Wanted something reliable, utilitarian, AWD and a manual tranny

I obviously didn't clarify - I am NOT planning on driving the 964 in the winter - maybe a nice sunny day for a meet or something.

I will be driving the Element in the winter (and to work during the rest of the year). Soooo, when I called Vintage auto, and numerous other companies that insure vintage / classic cars (>25yrs) - none of them are allowed (by the underwriter which I'm guessing is same company) to insure a car with over 200,000km on it.

I think Hagerty will - I had time for a quick online chat with an agent - I was upfront and said the car has 250,000km - all they said was it was a lot of km. They ased how many km I would be putting on the car, I said around 8,000km maybe - they said their limit was 6,000km?

I'll call Hagerty and State Farm tomorrow and see what they can do - currently my 964 is insured through RBC as a daily driver car - I sent them my recent appraisal and looks like they will guarantee coverage (but they are getting back to me on it), but since I won't be driving as much, I don't need to spend $1800/yr insuring it.

Just call your present company and get a policy with no collision.

Agreed, fire and theft only for winter months an enjoy the multi car discount. Taking it out a couple of days during the winter is just not worth it.

I got something utilitarian with meh looks. Questionable service history.. Volvo XC70. Last winter I drove a W211 E550 4 Matic, I can have a good comparison on what is more reliable

I used to have a v70r - awesome car but was more expensive to maintain than the 964. The xc70's are supposed to be much better in terms of reliability than the v70r though.

Auction car and the dash is semi lit up like an Xmas tree.. Drive nice though and will be great to take on ski trips. I would have loved an E90 touring but ground clearance sucks
Still love these interiors on Rs

Spoke with Statefarm - their agreed-value coverage ($500 deductible), 1mill liability is $500/yr (they state 3,000km/yr limit on driving). Not a bad rate.

For anyone interested, I ended up going with State Farm.

Hagerty want me doing any DE events with the car...

I do have a 19a with State Farm - agreed value as per my most recent appraisal (46,200+tax) - 4 years ago it was appraised by same person at 25,000...
I did mention driving education days to the agent when I spoke with her. Doubt I'll have time to do them again (sigh) in the foreseeable future, but mentioned it just in case.
Waiting for the final policy with details, but when I went over the policy at their office, it didn't mention km limits, etc...
Once I get the finalized papers, I'll post some more details.

I hope I'm making the right decision (turning into an occasional driving car) - these cars seem to run better the more you drive 'em!! But with the value shooting up like this, I'm actually a bit more worried daily driving it - especially in the winter now. Of course, there is the corrosion aspect too.
