I used to be a Mobil 1 guy... Now I strictly use Castrol products. Just a preference really...

Uhhh... no... After an experience a few years ago... I... well... Choose to shop elsewhere.

Perhaps I deserved that for just blurting out my preference for no reason in a thread that was just trying to help people save money. Touche!! ;-)

Haha, everyone is entitled to their opinion! Castrol is a fantastic oil and you can't go wrong with any of the selections... I just wanted to share the fact that Porsche officially changed their stance from Mobil 1 to Motul for their water cooled engines in case others were not aware.

I also was a Mobil 1 guy for a long time - then I got scored cylinders and just happened to pay more attention to these things (Not that it would have made a difference... but why not..)

I'll put my 2 cents in

Just be careful making the assumption that Mobil 1 must be the absolute best formulation for the Porsche lineup because it's OEM factory fill. Check the Porsche A40, C30 spec approved oil brand listing, it's a mile long and includes brands you have never even heard of.

Mobil just happened to be the lowest bid / highest margin opportunity on the RFP submission to Porsche.

For the Castrol supporters as always I thank you for your support

I do however have to believe there is some Engineering involved along the line, and not just money...

There certainly is Jonathon but the Porsche spec although some of you may find it hard to to believe is fairly run of mill when compared to VW/Audi, BMW and even GM's Dexos specifications.
