Yup. Just put in another litre. I've put in 3 litres now. That's after 6100km after the last full change

Well at least you are learning how much your car uses..

thats a litre per 2000km . Not sure if that's acceptable .. but if you start eating cats , you will know why !!

Yeah! Sure learning about that and finding out I'm not alone with the figuring out the oil burn out rate or level. I guess it's part of getting to know the car. Taking her to Montreal next week so it'll just be the two of us for the 500km trip. No radio on, just the the car and wind.

Always carry 2 liters in the frunk.
Never need it, if you have it.
That need oil light comes on at the most inopportune times.
Must be controlled remotely from the Black Forrest.

Actually it's our way of ensuring the new extended oil change programs at the OEM's don't cut into our volume and profits you can work wonders by altering formulations

If the add oil warning comes on, no need to panic. Just don't drive it like a maniac and you will be perfectly fine until you buy some.

Hey Rod,
What oil are you running? Some seem to consume quickly while others are minimal...ex. I don't have to add any over the oil change interval, even with track.

And +1 Imo000, and keep an eye on oil pressure to be safe

No need for a consistant reading. The level means very little when it is between the "normal" lines. And even below the low line, as long as you are not doing a DE (or driving it like you are) you are fine. As long as you have oil pressure you are good to go.

Sometimes you have to wait up to 5 minutes to get a reading that I don't even trust 100% of the time.
As stated above. As long as the reading is between the lines, you are good to go. A little higer, a little lower means nothing to the engine. All that matters is that the oil pickup has oil to pick up.

And not a problem even if it is four bars down.

Oil pressure is the MOST important.

But you need a proper leve so the pickup in submerged under all driving conditions. Including DEs or my driving. Now if the electronic display is more accurate than the dipstick (I would say it is) then, the dipstick should be ignored.

The electronic level is constantly checking oil level (at startup, anyway) , whereas most people don't. And in the between the two levels is always the right level for any driving condition.

During cold starts, if you don't wait 5 seconds the electronic oil level system will not show anything on the 996 or the Boxter. You can easily over fill these engines if you take a reading at the wrong time and these engines don't like high oil levels, the air oil seperator has a hard time doing it's job even when everything is normal.
