Those '85 Jays had a record of 99-66. Still a Jay's record and Steib is still the only Jay with a no hitter.
I remember the Drive of '85 very well...Stieb is still the best pitcher the Jays ever had...and I'm still pissed with the KC Royals!

I still have my Stieb glove from then and take it to games just in case.

Some of those players are still pissed after all these years because 1985 was the 1st year they went to the best of 7 format from best of 5
Otherwise we would have been in the World Series having led 3-1.
But that's still no excuse for the collapse.

Fingers crossed for this year!

Stieb was a great pitcher and a borderline HOF'er. That being said, Halladay is the better statistical pitcher.

Sure, for the short time we had them, Halladay, Clemens, Cone, etc. were all better statistically.

Stieb pitched for the Jays from '79 to '92 and again in '98.
He was an All Start 7 times.
He ptiched the only no hitter (and came damn close on 2 other occasions) on the Jays.
In the '80's, only Jack Morris had more wins than Stieb.
He still holds club records for Wins, Games Started, Complete Games, Shutouts, Strikeouts and others.

Stieb is the best pitcher the Jays ever had.

Thx. I know all about Stieb

Halladay was on the Jays for 12 years, Stieb for 14. How is that a short time?

I'm not sure by which measure Stieb was a "better" pitcher than Halladay.

Halladay was an All Star 6 times with the Jays and won a Cy with the team. He also pitched a one hitter in his first ML start (gave up a ninth inning home run to Bobby Higginson of the Tigers - still remember that game).

Everyone also knows that "wins" don't reflect how good a pitcher is.... :-)

Both great pitchers, but I'll take Halladay by an inch.

Ok, fair enough. Guess I'm just partial to Stieb because he was there earlier, and I was younger, and wins are not the true measure of a pitcher (you are so right). It could be that Stieb was close to perfect many times and in '85 they should have beat KC (who, in all fairness, had a pretty good club too).

It's probably just cause I was younger then (hell, in '85 I was just 30)...and well, the older I get, the better I was. I guess I project some of that on the early Jays too, Stieb included.

umps cost us the game today...missed the tag at second (even with replay) and called a ball off the plate as third strike in last inning.

But the fact that they had two hits in the last nine innings might be a reason too!

Just a typical Toronto team, except for the 92, 93 Blue Jays and the 67 Maple Leafs. Yes I'm that old.

home plate ump was bad, but for both teams.

lots of mistakes by gibbons in this game. should have pinch hit goins in the 8th or 9th but left him in. stroman should have never started the 8th (was 4th time through the order). He was lucky that Loup got a RH batter out. Offense was anemic and everyone was taking home run cuts. Texas has deserved to win the first two games.
