LEGENDS at LCMT
I attended the Legends event on Saturday.
Two years ago, I was blown away by the array of cars, and though it was a sparser collection this time, I was still in techno heaven.
The LMP Audi is mind-boggling!
Apparently, after this particular model was changed to the Turbo Diesels, the previous models and all parts were sold off. Several employees at the plant, left Audi, became privateers, and maintain these beasts for private owners.
These are extremely robust endurance engines, with ceramic bearings throughout. These engines last!
The F1 cars on the other hand, are sprint engines, with a 15-20 hour optimal run time. Depending on RPM used, one gets more/less hours of maximum time. I was told that a Cosworth rebuild could be $100K. ( Seems crazy!)
Notice the evolution of suspension arms/shocks!
So, whenever we empty our pockets, and consider the costs we incur in our DE passion, we should realize that EVERYTHING IS RELATIVE!
And this is noting compared to the world of sport planes or boats!
