Was out for a drive yesterday afternoon with wifey.
Turned south on Whites Rd from Taunton rd in Pickering.
Nice quiet road, no traffic, couple of nice gentle curves then a downhill slope. At the bottom of the slope is a railway crossing. Accelerated through the curves like only a Porsche can, then was in the downslope...doing a fairly good clip. Started to brake to "slow down" for the crossing and as I got closer noticed the fairly large rut.....hit it with my front left wheel.
Was expecting a blowout .....
No blowout...no damage to the rim...
phew
Be carefull of the crossing...its a bad one.
That has happened before to me too , I always brake hard to scrub off speed then let off at the last second to unload the front suspension before impact. the worst thing you can do is hit the thing with front end fully loaded up with all the weight of the car .
Thanks....ya...I did let off the brake before impact.
I truly thought I hit hard enough to blow the tire at minimum.
Kept driving the car and felt no changes, next day took it on the 401...again...no change, no pulling, no vibration, nothing different.
Very relieved... so far everthing is ok.
I guess maybe it felt worse than it was because I was expecting the worst as it happened.
Yeah one time I hit something hard while driving at speed. The steering wheel was still straight... no vibration... no visible damage... thought I got away with it. Then a short while later I had a clunking sound from that corner of the suspension... got worse and worse and worse... until eventually I had to change that strut.
That was with a less durable car... so hopefully the OP is fine... but anyways... that's what happened to me with a previous car.
I've been along that road many times but never in the Porsche.....same here back in high school but flying down that hill on my 10 speed....
9964Runner...what high school did you go to?
I'm a Mowat alumni....
...10 speed, that's going back in time! I went to Bethune, the Wife at Campbell. Back then the Rouge was way out in the country, even north of Steeles was farm land and movies were projected on large outdoor screens.... crap, I'm turning old
Movies projected on large outdoor screens?
The TeePee drive in theatre in Pickering on Liverpool road.
Theres a Loblaws Supercentre there now.
Went there as a very young kid with parents.
10 speed bike was purchased by the parents at Consumers Distributing. A catalogue shopping warehouse. Similar to amazon but you shopped using an in home catalogue and you picked up your purchase instead of home delivery.
