Default Winter wheel/tire recommendations

Starting to think about what winter setup I need for my car (2010 C2S) and I was wondering what most of you guys were doing. For my previous cars I'd usually get blizzaks or nokian happa's but I don't see any sizing in those that would fit the 911 so it's really just down to the "performance" winter tires like the Pirelli Sottozero. In the GTA the snow never really piles up too high and if it's a raging blizzard out I obviously wouldn't drive so I think these tires should be okay (no commuting, just weekend driving).

I was thinking about 18" rims and when I checked on Tirerack they recommend 235/40-18 up front and 265/40-18 in the rear while the 19" recommendation is 235/35-19 front and 295/30-19 rear. For the 18" sizing in the Pirelli Sottozero they have a 295/35-18 size so I could go with that one for the rear rather than the 265 but I was wondering is it good to have such a wide tire width for winter driving?

As for the rims, I was thinking about getting a used set of 18" Porsche OEM rims on kijiji and sticking fresh tires on them rather than buying a whole new set of rims on tirerack (some odd brand). I've bought plenty of used rims before and never had a problem but I'm still thinking its a crapshoot and you might get some slightly bent rims or something.

Thanks in advance for any input!

For winter tires, skinnier is way better. Search "rally of sweden" pics to see this in the extreme.

As for tires, Blizzaks. Cant be beat. I've won dozens of winter rallies on the " off the shelf" blizzak.

I am running Michelin Pilot Alpin snow tires on 18" rims (235/40-18 front and 265/40-18 rear) on my 2010 C2. No problem at all.

I've been quite happy with my continental extreme winter contacts.
