Porsche Archives
While I was at Porsche before I headed off to Le Mans I had a tour of the Porsche Archives. What a wonderful facility, (just above the cafe in the lobby). I didn't take too many pictures here but the library is outstanding. They have every book, every newspaper clipping - anything ever written about Porsche on file. The Director, Dieter Landenberger tells me that soon all of it will be digitized with the exception of the films and video tape vaults as that is a separate project not funded yet. Its public access upon application and almost every book or magazine you see written about Porsche topics was researched here - including Karl Ludvigsen's books. I was also shown a backroom with all the Porsche 'keepsakes' such as Ferry Porsche's umbrella/stool he used to use at Le Mans, a few drivers helmets, a 1/10 scale chocolate 911 that was a gift to Porsche sitting in a plastic case, a tool used by Buttzi Porsche to smooth out the 911 shape in clay - complete with clay still stuck on it! I'm glad Porsche are sentimental like this - it adds so much to the history of the firm and connects us all to the people responsible for the cars we all love.
