Track Insurance - Canada
Looking for some help with this.
At the UCR DE events was told that my regular policy covers me. True?
How about for other events such as DriveTeq (EA/Sieya)?
If anyone has a recommendation for a good agent around Toronto to discuss all this with I'd be grateful.
Also, if anyone has any personal experiences to share I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!

Far as I know/researched, as long as it is not a timed event/competitive, such as DE event or lapping day(which are covered) , it is fully covered under regular insurance

Try PIB, they will cover you on track. With regular insurance, if you can prove it is not a speed contest (PCA takes steps to assure this) and you are learning you should be covered.

I called my insurer (Meloche Monnex- TD insurance) to inquire about insurance at drivers education events for my Porsche 997. Just for asking, they doubled my premiums. I had to send them a signed letter verifying that the car will never be used on a track to get my original coverage and premium back.

DE coverage is a big grey zone.
Not only on the notion of contest, timing or speed, but also on that of aggravation of risk, meaning that did one disclose he would be using the car on a race track at high speeds. Adding belts, track pads, R compound tires and roll bar to a car can also be used against the claimant as undeclared modifications to a car.
Jurisprudence is much stronger in Ontario than it is in Quebec when it comes to supporting the DE claims.

This is NOT universally true and you need to go through your policy to see if there are any exceptions listed in your documentation.

I wrote off my 996 last year at a DE event. My broker asked a few questions trying to zero in on whether or not it was "racing". I satisfied her that it was not timed, there was not a specific number of laps, no start/finish line, no random passing etc. They covered me 100% without any increase to my policy renewal.
From what I understand, they can have whatever language & restrictions they want in a policy but it is the Insurance Act that overrides all else.

Just got a new car last month. They went through the standard list of questions including asking if I was going to track it and when I said yes, they told me they would not insure me (not even for the street) if I had any intention on tracking it.

Can I ask you what company that was?
