The 5 spd auto is a great transmission and handles the toque steer better than the 5 spd IMO.

I never had an automatic car, but I have drive a lot of automatic, for a city like Toronto it's nice to have an automatic gearbox, but, the automatic gearbox in the 9-3/9-5 is so ugly:

I know it's a weird argument but since most of the time I'm going to be inside of the car I prefer to have something that I like to use instead of having an automatic gearbox and think "i should had the manual"

I have a 2006 9-3 2.0T sportcombi as my winter beater, parts runner, etc. GREAT car! Impressive fuel mileage (mid-high 20's in mixed, 33-35 highway), torquey little motor, great seats, etc. the only nits I have are the interior plastics are subpar and the OE suspension is a little floaty (might be age as mine has almost 100k on it. The best part is that since Saab's are no longer being made resale values are in the absolute toilet. I paid $5k for mine, what a great car for zero $$. Prior to this I had a 2002 9-5 Aero wagon that was equally great just got rid of to get a newer one with lower miles (2002 had over 200k no issues other than DI cassette). Highly recommend!
