Default Classic insurance

Finally cut the cord on regular insurance for my 928. I was paying 1k with RBC. Now $242 (based on 19k appraisal) with Hagerty/Lant, underwritten by Aviva.

I was trying to use vintage insurance, but they ended up saying they just changed policies and would not insure me with an at fault accident. So back to Lant I went.

Process was smooth, and within a day I was fully insured with a 19A policy.

Anyways I know I had mentioned in another thread about Hagerty buying Silver wheels/Lant and my intention to try and keep dollars going to a Canadian company. It was nice to see that policies with Hagerty are underwritten by a Canadain company.

If you have a clean record, vintage insurance (link below) is slightly cheaper than Hagerty. They had quoted me $175, and Hagerty ended up at $242.

Vintage Auto insures my RX-7 under 19A and I've been more than happy with em.

Yes I have heard good things about them, too bad I have an at fault accident.

So I used their quote page and was given a rate of $195. What is this based upon - a six month rate? I guessed at my cars value but it says appraisal required - anyone know how much they charge for this? It's also not listed: is there a maximum mileage per year clause? I don't even know if a 1999 qualifies for vintage? I do have a clean record - no tickets (living right?) or accidents.

When they quoted me it was 2m liability, collision, fire and theft. 100 deductible for fire and left 300 for collision. Year round policy. Technically your not supposed to drive to work and such, it's designed to insure pleasure vehicles not daily drivers. And you need a daily driver fully insured elsewhere to qualify with vintage or Hagerty.

Appraisals run about $200. I use Maurice Bramhall and associates, their contact info is listed on the vintage web site.

There is no maximum mileage that I am aware of.
I can do appraisals and offer a rennlist discount price of $200 if anyone needs. It is a very detailed report. I am a member or PAVE. Check out their website. Haggertys rates are expected to rise a fair amount over next few years.

The problem I have found is all the fine print. No driving to malls, or general driving. The list of driving they don't want you to do is longer then driving that is ok. I'll stay with the current policy - don't need to be paying for a car that sits in the garage because they don't want you driving during rush hour, (seriously - was told this on the phone.)

It's designed for people that have a daily driver that they drive most of the time. And is geared more to classic cars and antiques that are typically not grocery wagons or work transportation.

So yes if you drive your p-car tons it's not the right kind of policy.

I can see why. I was rearended again (twice in 1 year) in bumper to bumper traffic in the Mazda3 the other day. Both times the bastards were waiting behind like 3 cars ahead of us to make a turn but somehow felt the need to press on the gas. Idiots.
