I know some stay at Howard Johnson's in Bowmanville. It's hit and miss because part of it is under renovation.
There's a new Holiday Inn Express in Bowmanville as well.
Lastly is the Port Darlington. Really tired hotel. My last choice.
Good Luck

HoJos is the only brand name place as far as I know nearby.
There's more in Whitby & Oshawa which is only about a 30 minute drive away and there's many more food options as well.

a little gem close to Port Perry (20mins from the track) on hwy 12 is San-Man motel. It is under $100, *VERY* clean and next to a good local chicken and ribs place. Plus Port Perry has good eateries as well 5 min drive away.
Privately operated, 11 rooms. Stayed there a couple of times and highly recommend it.
cheers!

Yes, until around 11:00PM. After that, it's still possible, but you have to get the attention of the security folks if they've closed the gate. Trailers routinely roll into there until around 2:00AM before big events.

Apart from some B+Bs (never tried any myself) the options for hotels have been given. I'd say stay away from Oshawa (seems local hotels are "party centrals" there based on my experience). Again, I like San-Man. Basic, but very clean, inexpensive and as close to the track as Bowmanville options. You can hit Timmies in Port Perry for breaky on your way in to the track. Good Thai place there as well (great food and cheap!) Cheers!
