Default PCA?

Is it worth joining the PCA Upper Canada Region? What does one get out of it? I was thinking of doing an upcoming DE event that a friend is doing but apparently I have to join and I have to get my car "teched" and buy and instal a fire extinguisher. Is that expensive to do?

It's worth it (under $50) just to get Provinz and Panamera magazines alone!

DE requires you to be a member, as well you need to do the intro course or have equivalent one or prior experience approved by the head track person.

You get two magazines as a member. There is a monthly social which on occasion you get a few goodies and snacks. Also DE is quite cheap compared to other events.

I'd say it is worth it.

PCA is one of the best ways to start DE driving. You outgrow it after a few years, but it's an excellent introduction. Fire extinguisher isn't expensive, and technique depends on what car you drive. In the older cars, there's a bracket that mounts to the seat rails and removes an installs in under 5 minutes, so no alteration to the car at all. I think the bracket was under $50.

If you're looking at the Shannonville event in August, it includes IDS (the introductory skid school that UCR requires before doing DE) in the same weekend.

They waive the mandatory fire extinguisher requirement for your first event.

^^^^^^^ Agree. 3 years later and I still think there is good use of a PCA membership and DE's. Obviously one will climb the colours of the run groups and may feel there is nothing after "black", but the membership allows you to go to other PCA DE's in USA and running with some of those guys shows you that even though the colour says black, or red or blue....there are loads of experience still left to be found.

I got to get myself to a social on of these days.

Yah, that's the one! Are you sure about the extinguisher? Angie told me I needed one.

Do you know how it is done on a 987.1 CS?

I confirm you do not need extinguisher for first event. You do need your car to be inspected by approved shop and do need helmet and numbers (shoe polish will work)
I have a fire extinguisher mount for sale cheap if you decide to do more than one event.
The 2 monthly magazines are worth the price of membership.
Be careful tracking is addictive.

You should verify that with the track chairman or chief instructor, but that was the case when I started a few years ago:

I'm not sure. For 996/986 you have to drill.

I believe it, you should just have to remove front seat bolts and get a bracket that slide in there. Mantis in oakville had a bracket that fit for mine.

Failing that, try Brey-Krause and/or OG Racing for mounts.

As an aside, I was at Mosport for the first time since the re-do and was duly impressed....the building is beautiful and the track is much improved--I made through the entire day without tearing my left front tire to shreds from sliding through 5B.

Really enjoyed the day despite the extreme heat and the IMSA teams hogging all the paddock space.
