Yeah, it's red flag to me that the price is the same. As with so many things, someone is wrong here, unless the 964 is mint and the 993 beaten.
While 964's are appreciating, they're not in 993 territory often.
Ppi, ppi, ppi.
Oh, and get a ppi.

Well I had the chance today to take a 91 Targa C4 for a spin (not the one I mentioned here). I can see now what people are talking about as it was my first time! I'll admit the car has a sweet sound to it as well as it handles nicely. However my big problem, no pun intended, is that I'm fairly tall (6'4") and I felt uncomfortable with the sport seats. The seat support were digging into my legs a bit. I know this car would be mainly my weekend and summer car to have fun in and I want to take it for some good drives however am I being too picky on being totally perfectly comfortable? ANy other fairly tall people out there that has found ways to feel comfortable? My height could be a deal breaker...

The sport seats in my 997.1 are the most comfortable, supportive seats I've ever encountered. Sure, ingress and egress is a little awkward, but the small extra effort is worth it.

I sat in a 930 once and I found the interior very cramped and to the point of undrivable for my 6'1" with super long torso. I would suspect the 964 and possibly the 993 would be similar considering they are based on the same shell. The 996 and 997 have more room for sure.

I'm 6'1" and loved my 993, Once I took the spacers out of the seat and lowered it as far as it would go. It was even better once I had OE RS seats
It also helps installing a steering wheel extender. All I am saying is that you don't have to go to a newer car just because of fit.

I am about 6'1" and have no probs in the 993. Its more compact then the 997 but thats the point. In the 993 you can basically reach over and open the passenger door without moving whereas in the 997 you can reach over and open the drink holders, push the heated seat buttons, fire up the NAV....you get the picture. The 993 is more "intimate". If that not for you then you really should be looking for a later model
That being said a 964 and 993 are great summer cars. Get the cab and you wont have to worry about headroom!!!

I'm 6'-3" and I have to admit fitting into my 3.2 Carrera took some work. I have changed to a heavily dished steering wheel (to bring the wheel back and up for thigh clearance) and I also got a taller shift lever. Even then, my head still brushes the roof constantly. However, I love the compact feeling of the interior and the coolness factor makes up for the fit issues (for me, anyway). I am on the skinny side, which probably helps too. I think these cars would be hard for a broad physique.
Fitting into my Boxster is much easier.
I've ridden in two 964's and they were essentially identical in terms of interior dimensions.
As for the cars you are looking at: I agree it is important to determine why a 993 and 964 are priced so close. If the 964 is in great shape and the 993 not, than that may explain it.
I really like 964s and that Targa was the last of the original removable-roof style. The "heavy" bumpers of the 964really work well with the Targa style. That picture looks beautiful.
