They quote highly regarded sources and this has been widely reported in the National Post and even some of the lefty media. Apparently her personal wealth is massive. This is only one of many mismanaged reserves - our own third world model right here in Canada.

The Attawapaskat situation screams mismanagement and poor governance. They have a problem with potable water for instance. A community water plant was constructed at great expense a decade ago, but in short time people started getting health issues. A consulting engineer was brought in who verified that the illnesses were caused by a chemical reaction between the chlorine with the water. The problem was traced to the water intake which is a brackish shallow lake 1500 ft from the village that in summer gets warm and produces unhealthy organisms. **** away a few more millions and bring in bottled water.

A lot of the income comes from casino revenue and cigarette production. Six Nations has several millionaires and none make their money from the Government - it's all from cigarette production (tax free - WE loose). One of these guy's has a contract to supply several European countries armies. All of this went south several years ago in the early 70's when the Indian Act was railed against as racist and not working - so it was repealed and replaced with native self management. From the old days of federal officials running the band and paying expenses, making sure houses were safe - to today's self management. Yup - that's working quite well huh?

From what I know on and off the Vancouver reserves, sadly, it's pretty much true. Idle no more is about financial accountability, or rejecting the idea of being held accountable.

Taxpayers should start an Idle No More protest of our own....we won't sit by and allow the money to continue flowing in until it's been audited and approved...band by band...reserve by reserve.....and only then will money taps be turned back on; for the amount that is accounted and approved for. Wonder how that will fly?

Treaty no.5, the ruling document between the Attawapaskat band and the Crown was signed early in the 1900's and in exchange for allowing the 'white man' to use the land each man woman and child was to receive 3 or 4 dollars. The rest is inflation. The journey to reach out and find the native bands is a great travel story. The original journals were transcribed in 1931 and available on line for those interested in history. Just search treat no.5

Just like to those who would complain about so called overpaid CEO's, why don't the people ask their chiefs where the money goes and share? The people of First Nations have been lied to by their own leaders.
There's no reason for them to live the way they do with the amount of money handed over.
For me, it's not about race, it's about culture.

There appears to be an assumtion that none of the money makes it to the everyday people. I grew up with quite a few native Canadians and even then they chose new trucks and sleds over fixing up a home that they do not own.
