Default Cayman in Rolex 24 Hour

I've always thought the Cayman to be the best performance platform of the new P cars, here is a great opportunity for the Cayman to show what it can do. With the 3.8 mid-engine it may have the mojo that Porsche has done their best to keep under wraps.

Anyone planning on going to Daytona for the Rolex in January?

It will be interesting to see how it does.

Looking at spy shots of the next cayman. I think Porsche has gone the way of making a new GT car and making the Cayman into a baby Panamera.

Anyways we'll soon see. I can only hope that these are just someone's abortion.

Hey Greg, I suspected you'd chime in.

No doubt another method of keeping the Cayman under wraps.

Seriously tho if the car is lighter, better balanced it should be faster...no. If not faster then the advantages may yield better fuel consumption and tire life, ...over 24 hours how much of an advantage is that?

The 3.8 engine is the M97 engine. I don't expect it to last. I imagine they have another one crated and ready to be dropped in.

You know something, this new class that they created almost temps you to put a LS V8 into the Cayman.

Here you go. The Cayman build for the Rolex here

They are dropping a 997.2 GTS/X51 powerplant bolted to a 987.2 Getrag 6-speed OEM Porsche transmission. That should do the trick.

BTW there is an article in this month's Panorama re: the impending 2 door Panamera coupe and the 961 mid engine super car....but not so super as the 918.

The engine in the Cayman GX Rolex race uses the 3.8L 9A1 engine family... M97 was done in 08...

Should be robust.. maybe not for 24 hours.. but better than the M97 for sure..

Yah I figured out that and posted in post #8. I am very interested on how well it will do.
