I think it's just one of those things for some folks (like me). The performance figures by today's standards don't even slightly justify the price. In fact, even in 1986 you could probably get more bang for a lot less buck. But it's place in the history of the 911, of Porsche, and of automotive engineering in general (not to mention design) makes it a very special car, that some people will pay dearly for. If money were no object to me, I would happily drop 400k for it.

It could be a ride around the block at 10 km/h, doesn't matter. It'd still be striking something off my bucket list.

It is quite interesting as I have a real nice 07 997 TT to compare it to.25 years of development has made the 2 cars very different but with the 959 being so iconic does it really matter?I would love to have them all

just fell upon this thread while doing a google search... amazing ! my old 959 is still in canada...

i used to own this porsche 959 . vin # wp0zzz95zhs900011 . i imported it in 2006 from japan , tokyo .
i used it for a while in montreal, then sold it to autoforum, sergio de carvalho.
it was a nice car.

this was actually my 2nd porsche 959 . i had owned one prior to that in 2003 . i had bought that one in cologne germany and had imported this 959 vin# wp0zzz95zhs900074 in the usa under the show or display lay . wallace lab had done the conversion for me at the cost of 30 000$.it only involved epa issues. dot was expempt due to the bill gates law.i later sold it to bobby bonilla from the ny mets . i had taken his mecedes 300 sl gullwing vin 5500735 on trade in ...
it was fun having owned 2 959's but i must say the ferrari f40 i had was much more aggressive and exotic .
i have old pictures and a complete file of both cars. import, sales, etc...
if the new owner in ontario needs anything, be my guest .i can share whatever you need for history purpose.

Was that the red 959 at auto forum ?
I was once there and had to go through the shop to get to the cars in back. I walked in once to see a red 959 up on a lift with the engine out on the bench.

Not a site you see every day. It definitely looked driven and no garage queen

Need to be VERY careful with the 959. They do very poorly if they have been left in storage for a long time as I recall and recommissioning costs can be frightful. There is a lot of bespoke technology on the car, not common to any other Porsche, so I would think it would need a very expert inspection.

We still have the car and there is no pressure to sell this car as our owner desires to keep it at least for the foreseeable future. The engine is in the process of a rebuild after 25 years and the car should be back together for the spring with a few other issues dealt with.Steve I will get in touch with you as there are a few holes in its ownership history that I would love to have filled.

Hey Emal if you get a chance could you snap a couple pics of the engine out being rebuilt ? that would be awesome to see. It seems this car has become a real piece of GTA Porsche history . unless they all have white wheels that was definitely the one at Autoforum and the UCR show..

and Robinson I agree

That first post by Cheval is going to be next to impossible to beat .. unless someone finds a C-GT in a shed !!!!

Here is a pic of the engine out of the car. Had a chance for go for a ride in this car a couple years ago - was showing signs of being in storage (mechanically and cosmetically) for a while but its good to see its getting the TLC it needs - hopefully all the bespoke technology that Ronan mentioned will be restored as well.

Ceramic coating on pistons & coated bearings as it gets ready to be reassembled.
