Hi everyone - what do you think about this car (1995 993)?
Hi everyone,
After much lusting and planning I'm on the lookout for a 993 and came across this beauty

Does anyone know this car? The current owner mentioned the following, and I quote
I'd also appreciate some opinions on the pricing and maintenance costs considering the mileage. I intend to use this car primarily over the weekend and I'm also planning to do a trans-Canada drive (Toronto to Vancouver) later in the year.

The car was tapped at low speed two years ago, the rear tail light was broken. The insurance paid for repainting almost half the car so I decided to pay for having the rest done....and I added the spoiler.
After painting it, I decided to replace the glass and the headlights as they had a few stone chips and they stuck out after the new paint job.
I got a good deal on the wheels and tires (I have the originals as well still)
The car had the chips, pipes and was lowered when I bought it.

I'd be a bit hesitant.
He says "no accidents" in the ad, but then goes on to explain fairly extensive repairs after an accident.
A full repaint is usually a red flag. A "tap" in a rear quarter doesn't need a full repaint. I can see his logic, but what you need is photos of the accident/damaged car, and documentation from the repair shop of the extent of damage and repairs needed.
The photos he provides are crap. I always wonder why anyone would go through the trouble of posting an ad, and not take the time to take decent pictures. You want to make sure all the body panels line up, no gaps etc...
The mileage is HIGH. These cars can last ages, but usually at that mileage most cars have had a rebuild of some sort. Lots of threads on this subject in the 993 forum... so please reads LOTS before going ahead with this. You'll also need a good quality PPI, including compression and leakdown. It's a must, not an option. Search the 993 forum for PPI places around TO.
You also should have documentation. Maintenance records, list of mods, etc. The car was lowered... that's fine, but how? What suspension parts? When? When was the clutch replaced... brakes.... etc?
All of the above doesn't mean run away, it just means keep doing your homework. These cars are a dream to own and drive, but can cost a fortune if you get the wrong car.

I think the price is pretty right considering the "tap", repaint and kms. I
wouldn't necesairly run away. Get a thorough PPI with compression and leak
down tests and you'll know your next move from there!

Check for worn valve guides, and a working cel, sai issues will require top end rebuild. Real tt wheels are hollow spoke and $$$. Theses are prolly reps.
Price is tempting but issues above will add $10k+. But even then, might be okay.

Just the fact the guy says no accidents in the ad and then provides details of an accident would be enough to turn me off. I believe there are two black coupes for sale on here that are in the $30's and have a documented history so I would look into those if I were you.

i think you guys are over analysing a 25,000 dollar car .. lets face it its not that much money .. there will be no SAI as pointed out as it is a 95 .. so its not pristine so what .. its a C4 for 25 G or so .. if i ppi checks out go buy it and drive the snot out of it .. who cares about panel gaps really .. would you worry about it on your 25,000 dollar GM? i wouldnt think so ...
price is right and it has fresh paint .. if it were 45G i would worry ... but at that price i think anyone looking for a decent driver is off to the races if it checks out ..

Gaps are a reflection of car with major damage history that wasn't rebuilt properly. Tip of the iceberg, so to speak.
The engine needs a compression and leakdown.
Lots of choices out there, why buy something suspect when you can buy something with a documented no-damage history.
Get a good PPI and go from there. If it checks out then go for it and have a blast.
