Default question regarding speeding ticket

I recently got a speeding ticket. Instead of requesting a court date and trying to fight it, I decided to make an appointment with the prosecuter. Is negotiating a lower speed so that I dont lose points an option with the prosecuter?

TIA

Lol, I've had plenty of tickets and I always fight them...it seems as though every prosecutor I talk to has a different story. But, having said that, most of them seem to give an option of less points or a smaller fine. I've spoken with my insurance company and they say that a ticket between 1 over and 49 over means the same to them and they don't care about points...I know, I found this riduculous as well...but that's what they say...so points are only a problem with the MTO and your licence if this true. Getting the fine down makes more sense...Sorry to hear about your luck, basically speeding tickets now are just another form of taxation lol...

Default Always Fight the Ticket!

i always fight tickets too, (parking and speeding) but i start with a challenge and request a court date. if you show up at the clerk's window ten minutes before the office opens you can be out of there in no time.

Challenges filed more than two years ago for parking tickets have never resurfaced and when one did a few months back. i showed up and the Justice of the Peace and i spoke for 3 minutes and i was out of there with $20.00 vs. $80.00.

For speeding i've negotiated with the prosecutor's office when they call a week or two before the court date. if they delay too long because of backlog or re-scheduling due to the police officer's schedules, etc. you can request to have it thrown out because your rights to a speedy trial have been violated. You should fax the prosecutor's office two weeks before the scheduled trial and ask for disclosure of all their evidence to remind them that you intend to challenge and that will trigger the phone call to settle.

My best challenge: 147 in a 100 zone, no insurance papers, no registration (don't ask) - 4 points - $600.00 in fines down to 119 in a 100 zone, no points, $40.00 fine.

Cheers,

I had a buddy make an appointment to speak with the prosecuter for a speeding ticket he got, and was told that, since he pleads "guilty with reason" they will no longer decrease points, and will only decrease the fine. I'm not too sure if this is a general change, or if he got a prosecuter that might have not liked porsches.

This is exactly what I heard happens. I just dropped off my paperwork to a ticket fighter. He's canceling my appointment with the prosecutor and going to court.

No idea, but the last time i went, they were called the justice of the peace also. I just called them "prosecutor" as a reference to the OP.

Fight it. The prosecutor is not the same as the Official who presides over your trial, the jp. When you go see the prosecutor, you are plea bargaining, and admiting guilt.

There are dozens of ways you'll avoid the ticket altogether if you fight it, and do your research. Admitting guilt is foolish.
