Instead of the Smart, should have gotten a VW TDI. I have two as DDs, both over 520K kms/each and they cost nothing to run or maintain. My budget, for a year, is less than a couple hundred $/car. The more you drive them the less they cost and the longer they last.
90% highway, 45K km/year, 125km/h on the highway, 1050km/tank, 60L tank, 6 days between fillups. I can get to Florida with only one refill and have 3 times the romm of a Smart! Ohh and as slow as the TDIs are, it will still kick the Smart's a$$ on everythign but stopping distance.

lol, If you all think they are that much of a blast then the 996 is miles ahead of it in all ways.

There's no doubt about that, but it's an apples-to-oranges comparison. For the same cash outlay, you'd have to buy a POS 996.

THey are old, one is a '99.5 and the other a '00. Both are the MKIV generation. I don't pay much attention to the newer ones but the '03-'06 MKIV TDIs had some real issues with the camshaft wearing out. Otherwise the nwer thant that are pretty good. But VWs always been a hit and miss. Some have 0 issues (like my 2) and others have nothing but problems. However I trully beleive the more you drive them, the less problems you'll have, but that goes for any car really. We clock around 40-45K kms/ each/ year.
