If you aren't to serious but just want to play around...someone told me that you can download an app from the BMW site that turns the iPhone or the new iTouch with the acelarometer inside into a fun little tool.

I've used a few, including Traqmate, iPhone app, and Racelogic. Can't beat the Racelogic PerformanceBox.
It's plug and play, you can move it from car to car. GPS, all the data you need, super easy interface, good graphical display with predictive lap timing etc.... all for half the price of a Traqmate. And you can unplug it and bring it home or put it in a friend's car.

SCB and SpeedMerchants sell them. I have a lightly used one that I'm keeping even though I have Motec in my Cup. I just like the plug and play idea for instructing or friends.

When I watch videos like the ones in this thread (there are so many more) I need to get myself a good setup for next season. Even if its just for my own piece of mind.

Does the Racelogic performance box have a gps track map and multipul camera set up? Id like to make movies like this

I use the AIM EVO4 setup and love it with the integration to the Porsche CAN network. You can see the data overlays on my videos on the YT link. AIM now has the Solo timer which looks to be a very economical way to get all the features you'll ever need from a DAS.
