A very good charger for the money. I now have two. I think that price is even lower than the CTC sale price when it goes on sale there.

BTW, the PA info states: "Temperature : Work in cold temperatures". What that should really say is that it has a cold temperature setting (14.7 V) which also applies to some specialty batteries.

i was actually surprised how well mine worked .. charged my Audi Battery with my two other chargers on the Audi and it still started sluggish , thought i needed a new battery , put my CTEK on and the light stayed Ornage for like 2 days.. when it finally went green the thing started like gangbusters and has ever since. I guess there technology really does work.

Default Desulfication & sulfication... get the good products, not chargers!

Very simply, less capacity, less retention, less efficient more sulfication of the components. I only use optimate products on my babies... Check them out, the new optimate4 kicks butt when it comes to charging and desulfication of batteries... around 75 bucks, nothing crazy. http://www.tecmate.com/u_optimate.php

Do not use standard chargers, they kill batteries!

From wikipedia : Desulfation is the process of reversing the process of sulfation that occurs to a lead-acid battery over time. Desulfation restores, at least partially, the ability of the battery to hold a charge over the life of the battery originally caused by sulfation). Sulfation is the formation of large non-conductive crystals of lead(II) sulfate (PbSO4) on the battery plates. Eventually so much of the battery plate area is unable to supply current that the battery capacity is greatly reduced.

As the temperature decreases, charge voltage should be increased.

As the temperature increases, charge voltage should be decreased. And that is why batteries in the deep south usually have a shorter life due to the possibility of them being overcharged IF the voltage regulator does not temperature compensate correctly...or at all.

I have three of them. They are good, but I prefer the two CTEK chargers that I have.

As for sulphation, if a battery is maintained, then it never gets to be sulphated.

I have the CTEK unit and have used the 4a/2a Eliminator units from CT for years and they all work well. The latter comes with a cigarette lighter plug while the CTEK plug is an aditional $12.

Just make sure to select the "snowflake" icon if you are storing your car/battery in a cold garage for the winter.

If your 996 battery location is similar to that of my 993, I hooked up the CTEK cable to the battery. Pics

Do you have a Digital Multimeter so that you can monitor the battery voltage during charging? Whats the battery doing the first two to three hours of charging?
