Blue magic from Cdn tire does a great job and then I put some optimum poliseal for protection.

Works great and leaves a coating behind so you don't really need to do anything else. Use it on door sills too.

None of the automotive products worked for me. The only thing that has worked is Barkeepers Friend which is available at Williams Sonoma (I used it as a last ditch effort because it works so well on cast cookware). I wouldn't have the guts to use it on chrome thought because I think there's a mild abrasive. I made a soup out of it with water and it worked well. Hope that helps.

I had four years of baked on soot on my c4. Car soap, wheel cleaners and nu-finish and they did not work. I was going to try barkeepers friend but 0000 steel wool and water did the trick.

I used all the above . . . but it's always the final stage of my cleaning.
This is how I (used to) clean exhaust tips on my car (can't be bothered these days)

#1 First step, I used some of my older Microfiber towels and wipe off as much of the deposits from the tailpipes.

#2 Next I spray P21S Total Auto Wash outside & inside of the tips
(It's Citrus based cleaner and great at cleaning contaminants from all various parts of the car) If your really stuck, WD-40 will also work . . .

#3 Next I use OOOO Super Fine Steel Wool - cleaning inside & outside using very little pressure.
One of my older cars had powder coated tips, in which case I didn't use the steel wool on the outside, only the P21S TAW

#4 Rinse off & wipe down with Microfiber towel
At this point, the tips should be looking good, this is when I pull out the Polish.

I've used both with good results:

- ZYMOL METALL BRITEWORK POLISH KIT
- Meguiar's chrome polish

its a freakin exhaust pipe ... if your standing outside the car looking at your exhaust pipe you're doing it wrong.

Actually Clive, the butt view of a 911 is quite important. .......butt, is the problem fuel related? You guys using corn syrup enhanced gas? I find it really sooty.

Canadian Tire sells "The original Never-Dull" magic wadding polish. It's about $10 and cleans all metal surfaces including 911 exhaust pipes as we proved a few weeks ago. A friend that details tried this out on his 04 C4S and it's now in his tool bag. Works on rusty tools as well. It's in a blue can.
