Default Need new keyfob - best route to go?

The remote alarm activation/deactivation and trunk openers on my keyfob seem to have stopped working on my key. So for now, I actually have to put the key in the door to open/close.

Seems downtown porsche wants about $200 for the keyfob, which they will insert my metal key part into, and another 1/2 hr labour ($65) for programming.

Is that my only option, or is there a well-known better/cheaper route?

Thanks in advance..

Guess I should have made that clear...I have already replaced the battery, not a battery issue. I did open it up and look at the internal board, seems the main switch button is loose, doesn't stay in place..but even manually trying it with key apart didn't do anything.

Unfortunately, I do not think you have any other alternative than buying a new keyfob and have it programmed (dealer or else). From memory, I paid $149.00 for mine in the US (EU Autowerks did the programming)

that happend to me, my Key died aswell. I got a Key Head from Suncoast and had Pfaff Program it @ Half Hour Labour. But EU Autowerks can also do it for you.

So Get your Key Head from Suncoast http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...y_Code=986Keys Possibly Cheaper at Sonnen Porsche, call them. And swap the Key yourself from the Old Head to the New Head at Home then take it to EU Autowerks have them program it.

It will end up costing you Half Price comapre to Porsche Dealer here...

In an issue of excellence a few months back, there was a DIY on repairing the loose switches in the fob. It seems that they can be replaced pretty cheaply at any electronic store and with a steady hand to solder them in.

If it's just a soldering problem then I've got a 3rd hand, solder gun, tweezers, etc you can use

Noted...but the rubber buttons on my fob are shot also..really need a new fob.

Just checked Suncoast, will come to $190 with shipping, then I have to wait for it to arrive, and still have to pay to get it programmed...not worth ~$20 savings to me.

Guess I'll head to Downtown P tomorrow (have appt..).

Yea unless you are not ordering other parts its not worth teh hassle for $50-/+

I usually have a List made up One for Summer and One for Winter and Order a bunch of parts together and save a bunch. Otherwise i just man up and pay our Canadian Dealer One part if i need ir right away...

FYI Suncoast also sells the button half of the fob case for little $$ if you have a working key but shabby buttons.

Lauzon, locally, is charging virtually the same price as Suncost for my new key.
