Does be careful out there apply to Mosport?

Just got a report in from a fellow director that on Monday a GT3RS is either a near write down or in fact a write down after spinning off the exit curbing of Mosport's corner 5B and into the drivers right hand cement wall during a lapping day. The roof was wrinkled even. Driver was taken to hospital in Bowmanville for a look over as he didn't respond well to the question 'what day of the week' it was. Released later.

I keep telling everyone about the corner exits at Mosport causing most of the issues and some listen and some don't.

I spent three days watching so called pro's have problems during the World Challenge / Trans Am weekend so even the experienced over do it. Thursday test day we had almost all the kids in scca formula Mazda do 180's on the exit of 5B. Some had soft landings - some not so soft.

So be careful out there applies to all my friends at Rennlist who do track days - essp at Mosport.

Cheers.

Well said. The assumption is that turn 5 being a hairpin and a slow corner, is therefore less dangerous, clearly that is a mistake. The other detrimental assumption some people make is that turning off stability control is a good idea, another costly mistake.

What a sad sight. I hope he doesn't have payments or it's a lease.

I see this all the time - too many times. I'd love to bring some of these people for a walk around Mosport before they do lapping and show them the many, many, spots where drivers with way more skills then they have - have gone off in big ways. Perhaps after the 40th or 50th spot I've shown them and we're still not out of corner 2 - they might 'get it' about this track??

Anyone can over drive a car and be a hooligan (not saying this GT3RS driver was) - but very few find that sweetspot and revel in the moment and are happy with it.

If you can safely turn a 1:40 and going down into the 1:38's gives you a few gut tests - why are you risking it all when your not competing? I know many people who parked their high buck street legal cars they used for lapping days and bought a $10-$15K race preped 944 and went regional racing and are having a blast. So it's an older car and it can't do 1:38's? Big deal - you'll have way more fun going slower then you have going faster. Doesn't make sense but it's true. I had a Z28 I used to track way back in the late 80's that was an ex Players Challenge car - it's slower then my P car but was great fun. If you can tame a solid axle under downshifts for 5A at Mosport you'll get great satisfaction and you'll know pretty fast when you didn't blip enough when the rear end yoyo's all over the place and your looking at a looming tire wall! Everyone's always slower the next lap through unless you have a few screws loose.

I've got a friend who has an old 240 he runs with the VARAC group who should wear a condom when he races as he's having way too much fun out there! Bangs it up the odd time and everyone pitches in to help him. Drives out of Mosport in his M3, a happy guy in a street car worth 4 times what his race car is worth. People should think about this option more before they play Paul Tracy with a near $150K-$200K plated car. Just saying.

Exactly. It makes sense.

Here we have superhighways with 70 km/h speed limit and a boulevard with traffic lights and stores/restaurants on both sides with the same 70 km/h limit. How they justify that is beyond me.

My favorite is the 30 km/h zone with 1 km of visibility in all directions. I guess that way that kid could run fast enough the get under my car while I putz along at 30 km/h.
