water cooled porsche owners up to 1995 i would also say are enthusiasts, not just the air-cooled 911's. i did not buy a Porsche for the symbolisim, i bought it because it was hand built and was a proper sports car.

I'm not sure there's another road car quite like the 996 GT3. I think you'll see 6GT3 values hold as 7GT3 values slide past. Your car is just so unique among mass production vehicles. Kinda crazy really.

I want a 996 C4S, turbo, or GT3 one day. They bleed Porsche like the air-cooled siblings.

Philosophically I get the air-cooled/non-air-cooled thing but really...they're all just so incredibly different than other cars why draw a line in the sand?
