Default Pursuitrak or Autoconnect Antitheft

The dealerships cannot sell the boomerang anti theft devices anymore in canada, and are offering these two options. Both apparently come with iPhone apps that let you find your car by GPS signal at any time, and alert you when the car moves without the ignition on. One has a monitoring fee, the other doesn't.

Anyone with any experience for these devices?

My neighbour, Greg, had his silver '88 911stolen from his driveway at 3PM one afternoon and credits Boomerang with getting it back in a couple of hours. His car sits out in the street 24/7 but I decided not to get it since my car is garaged.

Boomerang is cats meow when it comes to vehicle retrieval. Thats because it uses cell phone technology to triangulate that as opposed to GPS. The downside of GPS is it's line of sight to the satelites so if the car is put into a container or truck the system can't track it. Thats not the case with cell phone technology though which can't be hidden that way. However Boomerang has to compete with the other systems and there are lower cost GPS systems that can be had for $300 and about $ 15 /month (no contract) and activation of $ 75. Escort, the radar detector people have that kind of system.

The boomerang devices are fine, and if I had one in my old car, it could be transferred to the new one. Don't know more than that.

I stopped in at Altered Sound, they're a few doors down from Mantis and asked Mark's opinion. He thought the Escort system was better than Boomerang as far as the features offered. Mark's # 905 844-5459. BTW. Mark is the tech guy.

Hey, no one would EVER dare steal the Zookmobile!

Actually, sports cars are not the hot target that people think they are, mundane SUVs & minivans get lifted way more frequently. If you garage your car, the odds of it being stolen are pretty low. leaving it in the driveway or on the street makes it more of a target but mostly for vandalism.

As for theft targets nothing comes close to heavy construction equipment. I spoke with the people at the Construction association and they told me of a $500K excavator stolen from a construction site on a Sunday morning. Guy pulled up with flatbed and loaded it up and drove off. The Const association worked out a deal with Boomerang and in the first month the system was used it had 200% success rate. Why? Because the tractor that was stolen was taken to a shed that a second stolen tractor inside.

OK. Just off the phone with Boomerang. The company is in the process of getting folded into LoJack and there will be new technology rolling out soon, a few weeks. I couldn't get anymore out them other than they continue to support their existing customers.
