OT: Child Seat Laws in Ontario
I tried searching this topic here but didn't really get any relevant hits.
Anyone know the official ruling on child/booster seats in the front seat in Ontario. I read up on the MTO website, it only suggests that children under 13 are safest in the back seat but it doesn't clearly say "no children permitted in the front passenger seat (with a child seat)".
Maybe for cars with airbags, its a complete no-no to have kids in the front, but I'm not 100% sure on the "official law"

My kids are now 5 and 8. My car has no back seat. I can put them in the front seat with booster / Forward facing child seat provided that they can be buckled securely, and the FRONT Passenger AIRBAG is OFF

I wanted a definite answer on this last year so I emailed ministry of transport and they replied (about a week later) that as long as airbags are not active children in boosters or car seat can sit in the front. I have a copy of the email as I couldn't find this info online anywhere.

Its my understanding boosters are fine in the front & the only rule with boosters is that kids need to be 40 lbs before they are allowed to use one.

Here's the legislation:
Despite subsections (7) and (7.1), a pre-school to primary grade child shall not be secured in a seating position if the seating position has a front air bag that has not been turned off or cannot be turned off. O. Reg. 195/05, s. 1; O. Reg. 236/09, s. 2 (9).

3. Children weighing 18 kilograms or more but less than 36 kilograms and who are less than 145 centimetres tall are classified as pre-school to primary grade children. O. Reg. 195/05, s. 1.
