Default Which car is bigger ... C6 Corvette or 997 Porsche?

This morning at the GTG in the GTA ... a few of us started talking about the size of the Z06 vs the 997 model Porches ... When GM was designing the 6th Generation of the Corvette (C6) it targeted the Turbo, because it wanted to be about the same size, so that the Vette would be more marketable in Europe (smaller cars for smaller roads?) ... so here are the actual numbers!

C6 Coupe vs. 997 Turbo

Length:

Vette - 174.6 in (4435 mm)

997 Turbo - '05 / '06 - 174.6 in (4435 mm)
'07 / '08 - 176.3 in (4478 mm)

Width:

Vette - 72.6 in (1844 mm)
997 Turbo - 72.1 in (1831 mm)

Height:

Vette - 49 in (1245 mm)
997 Turbo - 51.6 in (1311 mm)

The Z06 is a little beefier ... for us High Downforce guys (right Eshel? )

It's 175.6 in (4460 mm) in Length and 75.9 in (1928 mm) in Width

Mark, I think it's time you were Banned from the Rennlist Forum, Why, because you are overstepping the boundaries of our collective patience, and taking way too many liberties like trying to compare your archaic leaf springs pushrod engine mobile, to our Ubber_Supercars. So without a valid reason, or a reply as to why you are being banned, You are Outta here Dude.

There, now you should feel right at home, cause that is what you are used to on the CF. Just trying to make you feel Welcome. lol

fyi, I'm on a Downforce Diet.

Totally surprised to hear how close in overall physical dimensions the two really are.

Now, how about some real raw data like curb weight and torque values on the Corvette's nasty V-8 as compared to the pretty boxer-6 in the 911?

That should separate the men from the boys!

Maybe this will help!

BTW, Chev site didn't let me compare the GT2. Note how the chev's engine is about a billion litres vs the 3.8 in the Porsche... and the max torque in the porsche is extremely early in the rev range, no wonder it shoots 0-60 in 3.3s....

I'd like to see data for sustained g's in a corner.

Finally, there's an error on the chev site, they put a "Chev Advantage" logo next to the engine spec...

'Vettes don't get the credit they deserve for being relatively lightweight (Z06 has aluminum frame...all 'Vettes have composite/balsa wood floors and aluminum suspensions) and packed with innovative technology. Lots of luggage space too...

They also save weight by putting plastic instead of leather.

All joking aside, I have a lot of respect for the new Vettes.

How many Vette owners upgrade their seats? They should copy Porsche in one other area. Seats.

Mark, you have to admit, numbers-on-paper is about the only way our cars compare. Let's talk materials, let's talk craftsmanship, let's talk precision engineering, lets talk dynamics. Every few years I get an itch to get into a Vette. I love the look, i love the sound. So I go to the local dealer, climb into one and all the excitement is gone. The interior is from an Aveo! American muscle cars have always had a huge following, especially Corvette, but I bet you wish it was made by a Porsche, dont you?
P.S. I agree with Eshel, your membership fee should be raised, at the least.

Stan did you see how that 10 year old 450 lbs heavier 996 TT passed those Corvette Z06's, and a few others. What an incredible driver, and car.
Forgot to mention one of those Corvettes passed was at the Rennlist gtg this past Sat..

Hey guys ... well I survived my trip to Quebec City ... fun drive except from Montreal to Quebec, snow the whole way! But the vette handled fine with her winter snow boots on!

I wasn't doing an overall comparison of the two cars, we had only been chatting about the dimensions, because the comments from Ted and Greg were related to how much bigger the Vette looked compared to the Porsche.

As far as the whole craftmanship / interior design thing goes ... I agree 100%, the Vette is very spartan looking ... although the heads up display is very cool 3 different modes, and several pages, allow you to monitor critical data.

Keep in mind, the Vette is designed and built by Americans, in a market place that is frought with legal actions ... so if you have a choice ... "Do I put the nice aluminum **** on the dash? or the soft spongy one?" guess which one you pick? LOL

The seats would be the biggest complaint heard among serious track guys, and they are the first thing to be upgraded ... since I have a large posterior, I tend to fit in them quite nicely (no comments Eshel! LOL)

The Z06 is quite a bit wider and a lot lower. Guess that is why it seems so big though it's length is pretty close.
Z06 wins Best bang for you buck! I seriously would pick one up if the wife would let me but she only wants to see me in a P-car.
