Default idling bad for our cars?

Question regarding idling. I drive my car in the winter so it is exposed to cold starts (parked in underground parking). After I start it, I wait till the rpms drop just under 1000rpm. This usually takes a min or two. I drive under no boost until the car is fully warmed up. After a hard drive, I let it idle for 2 mins before I turn the car off. Am I harming my car by doing this? Only reason I ask is because I heard that letting our cars idle is not recommended in our owner's manual.

Yes, Zookie is right. I do the same with my TDI but doesn't all the turbo Porsches have, either an electrical coolant or oil pump, that runs after the engine is shut down? I know the TDIs don't.

Yes + that. Initially you want the combustion chamber and piston warmed up, that only takes a minute. After that the motor warms best under load. Excess idling fouls the crankcase from blowby.

Looks good. It takes a long time for the oil to make it's way around the engine so I always warm-up for at least 3 minutes esp. on cold fall days...........
