Both paulmotorcar 997s have terra-cotta interiors, not brown or red, from the pics. I don't think carrera red was an option until late 2007 or 2008. I've seen earlier cars with leather to order red, but they don't appear to be the same shade.

Depending on where you look in the states, you might not find bargains based on time of year - remember that over 50% of the US population can drive a P-car year-round with no fear of snow or salt.

Our retail price on a clean, no-paintwork 06 997S coupe from the states with around 50k km is in the mid to high 50s.

Perhaps it's the quality of the soft leather but the inside of that car for 49900$ looks "used and high milage" in real life. My opinion. Very nice people at the place.

It was a deal breaker for me.

Pictures look amazing on the website.

I need back seats for my boys..
If not I would get a cayman r350 for my work commute and drive the 996 convertible with the boys and dog on the weekend. Forgot my wife as well..

only a question & no debates intended, but if you are interested in purchasing a p-car that will hold its value (short term or long term) why would you consider a 996 or 997 series (not to raise issues of ims or rms, but mostly cause porsche just built so many of them, no?) as likely values for these editions will continue to fall ...for your budget & just as much a blast to drive/more so if you have the stones....993tt, 930t (either in 911 or 964 bodystyle)??
only a question...........

+1, though 993s and 930s have not likely seen the bottom of the depreciation curve, esp. 993s. If you want bottomed-out, mid-years are it right now, and fairly close to the bottom are SCs - in fact those seem to be starting to climb.

I can't drive a 993 as a daily driver.. In quebec the roads are terrible.
If I pay 42-50 k for a 997s..the depreciation can't be that steep/per year?

My 01 996 conv. Will only loose 3k per year...I think..?

Thanks for the input..

A 997 will depreciate faster than an 01 996, because the 996 is that much lower into the depreciation curve already. 3k/year sound about right for a 996 right now. 997 would be more like 5-7 for a few more years. A 997S that's worth 50 today will only be worth 30 in another 4 years or so, all things considered equal.

Perhaps I should drive the kids to school in the cayenne and get a cayman s to drive to work..my wife picks up the kids after school and usually drives them as well.

I would be in my budget and get a low millage car...

OK, I'm not big on typing long stories but here she goes...

There where only 2 black C4S cabs available in the Province and the guys at United Auto where very simpatico (no attitude like the other place), they knew I had multiple cars and was looking to buy more so why screw me over for one sale when they'd gain a repeat buyer... right?
The car looked good, sounded good and seemed to be in tip top shape with clean car fax...

Long story short I bought it, show up a few days later to pick it up (after full 3M application) and there's a white sticker in the window (which wasn't there before)... I say "what's THAT", oh you have to keep that for a year because it's a US car... WHAT!!

At this point I was tired of looking around for a P. and was excited to take possession, I thought "so you over paid for a US car... screw it".

Over the next few weeks the hidden defect started showing up... airco, climate control, radio, 5 cracked coils, worn motor-mounts, the left bank out of phase, broken vents which had been super glued back together, a seat heater which ended up burning an imprint in the leather of the backrest (not something I thought to check for in the summer) A LOT of scratches on the leather & plastic started showing up (after I detailed the int.) etc. etc. etc.

And then of course after a 10 washes (when the wax wore off) the worst swirl/buffer pattern of a bad compound job I've ever seen... at which time I also noticed that the front bumper and driver side door where not the same black as the rest of the car (repaint)!!!!

After alot of screwing around they paid to have only the things fixed I found out about within the first few days (airco, radio and climate control) by shops of their choosing (yeah.. fix one thing, screw up and scratch/dent another) only to go back and have it fixed again...and again... still not fixed.

I decided to cut my loses and have everything fixed myself at the Porsche dealer, when everything was back to 100% I started focusing on the joy of customizing after which I had the whole car done with 5 layers of high quality clear so it looks like it's covered with a thick layer of glass!! (something we do with high-end custom bikes).

It's my favorite ride!
I took lemons and made some high octane lemonade!
But if you're not into citrus drink or getting SCREWED stay clear of UNITED AUTO!!

In the end though I've only got myself to blame I should have know something was wrong when there was always something postponing the inspection... lesson learned!
Cheers,

Sid.

Thanks! And no, I'm the 2nd owner. The 1st owner bought it 1/5/2005 and traded it to me a month ago. I was planning to sell my 987 Boxster 3.4 and keep the 997 but now I've changed my mind and am keeping the softop.

My 997 had about 5500 miles when I got it, and now is still less than 6k.
